Friday 16 th October 2020...more medical stuff!

Well I had a better sleep than I thought I would and

after doing doggie chores I left to go to my doctors office.....Gracie has a stick shift car but I am able to drive it without pain or a problem.

The hospital is quite new and very well sanitized and very few  people around...

I arrived at the same time as the doctor who is a specialist in knee, shoulder and hips.......he looked to be about late twenties, very smartly dressed, perfect English and my first impression was very good indeed.

In his office he asked about my injury and looked and said boy do you have a fat knee!!!!

He explained that with my age and a lifetime of aggressive sports knees take a toll....he told me that each knee should have 5% fluid on the knee and he was going to do a little procedure to drain the excess fluid off my knee.

The fluid that comes out hopefully will be a yellowish color which is good but if it comes out red that is blood and much more serious......I think he was a little amazed that he drained 65 % of fluid from my knee and it was mixed results...it definitely was not red but there was some red in there........

He told me that he would send me to get an X-ray and MRI and then see me again on Thursday.....he gave me some pills from his cabinet for pain if I needed them and also a prescription for anti biotic because of the procedure he had performed...told me to continue to ice my knee and to try to remain as inactive as possible.....so I said I guess no tennis on Saturday, he smiled.

He was so professional and efficient  and told me to take care..

I went to the receptionist and paid the bill.....wait for it...800 pesos...figure that out in your own currency.

I then went to the medical lab and all I can say is this area of town is undergoing huge construction of road changes and it is insane to try to drive around.....but I had to do it.....at the clinic they told me they could not give me the tests now but to come back at 4pm.........

I am not really in pain, getting up and down the stairs is cumbersome and walking is a little awkward.....I feel so sorry for the dogs, they have been used to going out every single day and even though Gracie has a nice yard for them to go out into, they look at me and say Les when are we going for our walk.

So what I did this afternoon was get them in the car and drive to the soccer field where Gracie takes them all the time and I let them off leash and I really just stood around and they played and Negrita ran and they got some good exercise so I felt better about doing that and I can do that easily every day.

Then I dropped them back at home and had to fight the traffic to get back to the clinic...

I was on time, no one else there, the technician was good and I had the MRI.....if you have never had one it is really weird, like being in a coffin, you cannot move and you get head sets because the noise is so loud..it lasted thirty minutes..I must research and see what the whole thing is about.

Next I had X-rays and I was done in 45 minutes......now hang on .....and read this article..

My wait time was like seven hours and my cost was 3300 pesos.....207 Canadian dollars....157 US dollars.....unbelievable!!

This evening at 6pm one of my English students, Martha, who lives four doors down from Gracie, came to the house and we had an English lesson for one hour....her English is very good and the time went by so quickly and I enjoyed seeing her again and she is going to come twice a week.....

So a busy day....next Thursday I take my results and meet with the doctor and till then icing, dogs to the park for a self walk and laying low...I can do this!!

Cute photos of the dogs in the house...

Two good quotes!!!

Stay safe and healthy!!

Sorry to hear about your Knee Les! It is one of the joints that is not designed to keep working for as long as we are living these days so we have to take care of them. You have many factors going for you, you are not overweight and do more walking / hiking than running. Your tennis might be an issue with the running and quick stops and direction changes. That could put a bit of a strain on the old knees. Take care and do as the doctor says!
