Monday 30 th November 2020...update!!

If you have read the post I shared on Friday you will notice it includes a motor cycle accident all those many years ago.....

Well this what I posted on Face book this morning..

Just a quick update on my knee surgery and other medical stuff.
My knee surgery was scheduled for tomorrow morning and I was all geared up for it but unfortunately on Friday morning the scooter and I parted company after I went over a wet patch of road.
Not going to go into all the details but the scooter suffered very little damage and I had some nasty road rashes on my right arm, suffered a broken rib but also damaged my knee, the one scheduled to be operated on.
My treatment at the local hospital was simply amazing and I was contacted by my primary doctor, cardiologist and knee surgeon.
I am doing really well and recovering at my casita with many friends, especially Gracie, helping me out!
Obviously my surgery tomorrow is cancelled and I have an appointment with my knee surgeon on Thursday morning, I would imagine the operation will be put off a few weeks.
Since I arrived back in Mexico on the 1 st October it seems I have spent a huge amount of time at doctor’s offices and the hospital.
My plan now is to heal the rib, get stronger and have surgery and start on my recovery and get back on those tennis courts.
I am so blessed and do have a guardian angel watching over me this could have had such a different ending.
Stay safe and healthy.....best wishes les

I am blessed because this could have been so much worse..I am banged up for sure but doing well....

I see my knee surgeon on Thursday and will see what he has to say....

Unfortunately bi am also house bound as walking any distance is not good for me yet so I spend quite a bit time talking to the hummingbirds which are very friendly and not frightening to drink whilst I am just a few feet away...

Thanks for all the good wishes...I will try to keep the blog as interesting as I can.....

Stay safe and healthy!!

Friday 27th November 2020...another blast from the past!!

Happy birthday to my lovely friend Cynthia, in Nanaimo...hope it is a special day for you!!

I reckon this was taken in 1971 and I lasted about  6 weeks on the motor cycle squad………I have no idea why they chose me for this squad but I was always uncomfortable on the bike and the first guy that I pulled over was hilarious…the roads in Bermuda are very small as is the island…but there are many roads out of town where the lanes are tiny and the drop off is down a bank.

So I am out on patrol and saw this guy on a motor cycle speed past where I was parked….I started up and caught him and put on my flashing lights and siren and pulled him over…he stopped and I pulled up behind him…  and in my best manly cop movement got off my motorcycle and did the swagger walk towards him BUT…..I had forgotten to put down my stand to prop the bike up and as I am strutting towards him I turn and see my prized white Honda roll down the side bank!!!!!!!

I never missed a beat and told the guy it was his lucky day…help me pull up my bike and you get a break on the ticket!!!!  Should have been a warning because the next day I am on the stretch of road by the airport which is long and straight and I was chasing a speeder…I reckon I was going over 50mph when I lost control of my bike and started heading in the opposite lane…I had no choice but to ditch the bike and I did 5 summersaults and finished up in the bushes which my elbows and bum skinned almost down to the bone but fortunately no other serious injuries…..I was in hospital for over a week and came close to getting skin grafts on my elbows….I was off work for 6 weeks and on my first day back my boss told me that the bike I crashed had been fixed and the only way I would overcome the fear was to get back on the bike and go out on patrol…so I did!!!

I had been out about 3 minutes when I came up a hill to a stop sign and ran into the back of a car…no damage or injuries except my pride.   I called on my radio and asked for assistance…two buddies came out and one of them drove the bike back to the headquarters and I rode in the police car.

I asked for an immediate transfer and the next day I was Detective Constable Pearson!

Wednesday 25th November 2020.... memory lane trip!!

This day nine years ago!!!

Friday, November 25, 2011

Friday 25th November 2011……..Another great day!!

Starting off with two hours of tennis at 10am..I do enjoy the games and I wear my brace and afterwards ice my knee and so far all is good!!

After tennis I went up to Linda and Guy’s and went with Guy to take his van into the repair shop and we got a taxi back to the house.  I then came back home and had to get Ramona ready and packed up and everything away as tomorrow I take her into the body shop.

I did manage an hour of sunbathing before I went down town to say goodbye to Ang, the English couch surfing lady I met last week she leaves tomorrow backpacking all the way to Central America I wish her a safe journey!!

Then is was off to Linda and Guy’s and my evening job of babysitting little Muri!!

nov25 009

Muri’s parents, Terri and Jason and Linda and Guy went to town for dinner and a music celebration and Muri and I had a great time…

nov25 010

nov25 013

Did I mention I used to have hair like this??

nov25 014

I liked her red toes!!!

nov25 015

We had a lovely time and little Muri was an angel so well behaved….we drew pictures, played with play dough, ate some M & M’s and watched Clifford the  red dog!!!!

The big people came home after 9pm and I said goodbye to Muri and her Mum and Dad as they leave tomorrow…have a safe journey and great to connect with you all again!!!

So there another lovely day in SMA!!

Not sure what is going to happen tomorrow Linda and Guy have offered for me stay at their home whilst Ramona is in having her butt lift but I may want to sleep with her in the shop for safety will know more tomorrow…I hope to be able to blog tomorrow and of course Sunday is the big pancake breakfast….

Wish you all a great weekend!!

Two things stand out for me on this blog...

The fact that my knee was bothering me then.....it must have gone away because I have not worn the brace till this recent set back....so the knee has been good to me!!

The second point which brings joy to my heart......do you remember a few days ago on the blog I wrote that Muri had told her Mum she wanted to drive down to SMA from Tucson and take care of me after my surgery.....this is little Muri nine years ago!!!

She is an amazing young lady who has such a giving heart and soul.....

Tuesday 24 th November 2020...good news!!

Today was good news..I had a morning appointment with my cardiologist.....

He asked me if I had any side effects from my new medication and I told him none whatsoever....

Next he gave me an examination and told me my heart was beating well...and then he gave me another EKG.

He told me that everything seemed really good and he was going to give me permission to have my knee surgery .

The only concern he had was that with my slow heart beat during the surgery he did not want my heart to go too slow so he told me he wanted to be in attendance for the surgery and in the unlikely event that something happened he would be equipped with a pace maker and could rectify any issues.

I was very pleased with this...he then wrote a long letter to my knee surgeon outlining all of this.....he gave me the letter to give to my surgeon.  He also told me he would contact the surgeon so they could talk about the surgery.

I was very happy as I thought I would have to have had more tests.

By the time I had done some errands and gone home there was an email from my knee surgeon telling me that he had received the letter and all that had to be determined was the date of the surgery and did I have a preference .

I wrote and told him I was good to go as soon as possible, how about Monday?  I have not heard back yet but it seems certain that the surgery will take place very quickly which is great news for me!!

A friend sent this to me which I found interesting..

MAYO CLINIC - DRINKING WATER

You may already know all this. I knew some of it.

Anyway, as we age this is useful to know.

A cardiologist determined that heart attacks can be triggered by dehydration.

Good Thing To Know. From The Mayo Clinic. How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night?

Heart Attack and Water - Drinking one glass of water before going to bed avoids stroke or heart attack.  Interesting...

Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why people need to urinate so much at night time.

Answer from my Cardiac Doctor:  Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc.) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me.

Correct time to drink water. . . Very Important.  From A Cardiac Specialist:

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

I can also add to this. . . My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

Mayo Clinic on Aspirin -Dr. Virend Somers is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic who is the lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, When the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.

The Reason:  Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2. Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest; for years. (When it gets old, it smells like vinegar).

Please read on.

Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know.  Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.

Why keep Aspirin by your bedside?

It's about Heart Attacks - There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up.  However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.  If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by.  Say "heart attack!" - Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins. - Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and . . . DO NOT LIE DOWN!

I took the three dogs for a long walk this afternoon and now going to settle down with tea and a biscuit and watch some soccer from England!!

 I like this..

Friday 20 th November 2020....Friday already!!!

Little SCOUTIE  had to go for a minor surgery yesterday so she stayed home with Gracie

while I took the other two kids out for a long walk this afternoon.

Most of the area of the Pressa where we walked is usually underwater but not this year....

They loved running around off leash....

Hard to see but there is a beautiful horse in this picture...

These cows are wearing cow bells!!

It was a good adventure......

With Covid seemingly getting worse just about everywhere I have had to make some decisions regarding the Three King Toy drive......donations are coming in and thank you to everyone who has donated....

There is still lots of time to donate and this is the link to the Go fund me account..

https://www.gofundme.com/f/three-kings-toy-drive?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

In years past we have gone to several communities and had the children line up and come and collect their gift and a hug from a King and it always has been a special moment when they are handed their gift.....these children really get nothing.

I had thought that maybe this year we could have the Kings on the back of a truck and have the children lined up on the side of the road and as we drive slowly by drop a gift into each kids hands but I realize this will not work..too many children in one area not safe for them or my volunteers.....

So what we have decided is to go to two communities..one a large one with nearly five hundred children and one a smaller community with about fifty children.

Each community has a delegate in charge, I guess like a Mayor and I will contact this person and arrange for us to deliver the gifts to the school and leave the gifts there for the delegate and the residents to get the gift to each child, we shall not be involved in that aspect this year.

I will go out to the community on  Monday and set things in motion....it will be different this year for sure but bottom line is that the children will still receive a small gift........

Stay safe and healthy!!
