When we decided a few months ago to come to Portugal I did lots of research which I really enjoy and found this small village near the Spanish border that looked so interesting and I knew I wanted to visit...so this morning we drove about three hours passing throug some lovely small villages...
With walled castles..
Until we arrived at our B & B in the small town of.....wait for it....
It is such a sleepy wonderful town the street are lined like this
We have noticed two things about the towns and villages we pass through everything is so clean and neat and no garbage anywhere and they all seem to be empty of people.....
The room we have is lovely with a small balcony and this is the view
We settled in had a snack and then took off for the village I had wanted to visit..it is twenty minutes away
It is a village surrounded by these huge boulders and the locals have just built their homes in and around them..it was fun to walk the narrow streets..
Perched high above the village is an old ruined castle and I decided to hike up there whilst Gracie wondered around the village...it was a steep climb but so worth it....
The views from the top fantastic..
I am so glad that I did to visit this village.
The next village a few miles away is surrounded by an old Roman wall and this also was a great village to visit especially as were there when the lighting was optimal for photos...
In the photo above do you see the nest?
Love the colours of this wall
This was another great day.....
Tomorrow is our last day in Portugal we drive back to Lisbon and take the car back stay the night and then what???
Well you will have to wait!!!!
Yashi Kochi!!!

Catching up reading, again. I agree, the best way to have lunch (for us) was to pick up fresh baked bread, good cheese from a local cheese shop, a few pieces of fruit like those gorgeous oranges in your photo, fresh bottles of water and some great wine. I also found small jars of raspberry jam and fig preserves (great on the fresh bread). Since you are in sheep territory, I'm sure there is a lamb stew with carrots and potatoes around there somewhere.
Thanks for the photo of your Camino arrow on your ankle next to the Camino marker; I thought the photo would be hard to get, like Gracie having to dangle you down the wall of a building or something! Ha! If Croft hasn't found out about his vineyard in Portugal, I'll have to remind him to look at your blog to locate the vineyard so that he and Norma may visit to lay claim to it.
Did you ever ask anyone why all those huge boulders are scattered over such a small area? Was there maybe an active volcano with earthquakes there at sometime in the distant past that spewed them out? Very beautiful and novel village with granite houses contrasted with colorful door and trim work.
Can't wait for what is next. Is it by bus, train, or plane?
You will have to wait for tomorrow and he blogπ€. Yes that is the way we are eating too we really cannot find too many places to eat in these lovely small villages...I think volcano and the boulders were so intergrated into the buildings so cool have a great weekend les
Wow, the villages remind me of Umbria and Tuscany, Itlay. So much culture and history. Excellent pictures!
