Friday 15th June 2018....tennis and more tennis and soccer!!!!

This morning Janet packed me up with a wonderful lunch..loaned me Little Jan again and by 9am I was off on the road to Nottingham...

The road trip is to attend a ATP challenger tennis event.....I found the facility after about two hours and it is a huge and very fine complex...

I purchased tickets for two days and the way it works is that I have a reserved seat on the centre court behind the service line where I like it for the whole two days...but I also can get free access to the other main court and that is what I did for the first game

...watched a great men’s match and then moved to my centre court seat to watch three exciting three women’s single matches....

The only way in my opinion to watch a tennis match is behind one of the service ends this way you get to see the angles...the spin..the tactics!!!

It was just over six hours of tennis and I enjoyed every minute under sunny skies.

I then trusted my GPS to get me to my air bnb for two nights a lovely room with a nice young couple.....I have my own room and a shared bathroom and use of the kitchen.

I walked a couple of hundreds yards to the local pub and had a delicious home cooked meal.

Back home a long shower and then settled down to watch a fantastic live soccer game from Russia... 3-3 tie between Spain and Portugal....

Also heard from my great friend Stella that her grand daughter Ashley is in a tennis tournament in South Carolina and today reached the semi final this will almost guarantee her a place in the qualifying tournament for the US Open in late August and September as you may know I am going there but may have to get to NYC early to watch her play!!!

This kid likes his sports!!

Les, do you know where in South Carolina she is playing a tournament? In the lower part of the state, it would most likely be on Daniel Island or Hilton Head Island, not too far from us. In the upper part of the state, I am not too familiar with tennis venues.

Les, is Ashley on the ITF Tennis ProCircuit with tournament play June 11 - June 17 2018 at Palmetto Tennis Center on Theatre Drive in Sumter, SC? That is located about mid-state (Piedmont region) which is approximately two hours from Summerville where I live. Ashley is listed as Ashley Harkleroad; is that the correct Ashley?

Everything correct except she is Ashley Lahey and in the main draw semi. Lp

P.S. The tournament is billed as the Palmetto Pro Open to be played outside on hard courts.

P.P.S. I knew the name had to be wrong because they had this young lady born in 1985.

Ashley will be 19 in October I played against her when she was 12...and that was an event worthy of it’s own post!!!! Lp

According to Ashley's tournament profile, she won the women's title and purse in Sumter last year, 2017. I'll have to check my sports cable stations to see if the Palmetto Pro Open is being televised here in South Carolina this year.
