Friday 29th October 2021...delivery day!!

Our tireless and amazing leader, Lynn, had friends

from the USA visiting so she could not come on the food hamper delivery today but Reyes and myself went out to the campo Morelos...

Photographs do not describe the joy on the faces of the families and children when they see the white van approaching......

We get to know them better each time we go and the kids are just awesome and everyone always say thank you!

Of course none of this could happen without the incredible people of SMA and other parts of the world who donate cash and unwanted items to us......

Now we always have some clothing or cookware or shoes to add to the box of food we deliver.

As the cooler weather approaches we would love to have blankets to give to these families!

Two birthday celebrations today......Carolyn my very special friend and tennis partner of over ten years was born this day...sadly Carolyn suddenly passed away almost two years ago, she was a remarkable and kind lady...

Jen and Loren and myself had a memorial plaque made and put outside the tennis court we used to play...

.....rest in peace Texas Belle!!

Also celebrating her birthday today is Ashley who is 22 years old!!

I have know Ashley’s Grandmother and Aunt for over twenty years and I first met Ashley when she was 12 years old, blonde and adorable and already a tennis superstar.

That day in Palm Springs her Mum, Pauline, asked me if I wanted to go down to the tennis courts and hit balls with Ashley.

Of course I jumped at the opportunity .....little did I know what I had just let myself in for!!!

The first surprise I had was that we had to run about 2 miles to the tennis facility .....Ashley waited for me to puff and pant my way to the courts.....then she smiles at me and tells me she has to skip rope before she goes on the court......I said no problem how many skips do you have to do......1000 she innocently told me.

So she pulls this skipping rope out of her tennis bag and starts to skip..she reminded me of Mohamed Ali....one foot ..two foot..cross over...she was finished before I got my breath back.

Next we go onto the courts.....now I have played all my life and consider myself a decent club player and know I can hit the ball hard and true....

So let me set the scene here.......there is me on one side of the court and at the other end this awesome athlete of a twelve year old, blonde, gorgeous and so shy...

We start to hit balls back and forth and I am doing well returning the balls and even getting a couple past her......

Been playing a few minutes when we both go to the net to pick up the balls and I casually say to Ashley that it must be an advantage playing left handed on the tennis circuit because of the spin generated.

I shall never forget what happened next...Ashley looks at me...smiles, shrugs and in a way only a 12 year old girl could......she tells me......wait for it.......it is really good.......

She says I am not left handed!!!!!!!!!!!

I look at her bemused and say but you are playing left handed...but even before the words had left my mouth I knew what she meant......she was playing left handed to take it easy on me!!

The Pearson stubbornness kicked in and I say ok go back and put the racket in your right hand I can handle it!!!

I should have known better, never got another ball back she was rocking the balls right and left past me......12 years old!!!!!!

Ten years later Ashley has completed five years of Pepperdine College and ranked the number one women’s college player in the USA...received a great education and has her whole life in front of her...but more importantly to me she is an amazing, dedicated and compassionate beautiful young woman....Happy Birthday!!

Today my oldest nephew Mark celebrated his birthday in typical Pearson fashion ...a round of golf...

Left to right...Mark....his son Tom ...and his Dad Malc.....

Followed by a nice family dinner so I am told!!

Hope it was a special and great day, wish I could have been there!!

Friday 23 rd October 2021....delivery day!!

Friday is delivery day and today the Gang went out to a small community on the road to Los Rodriguez  where you see Lynn wheeling the barrow!!

These young girls help carrying their box of food with their sniffing dog close by.

I have a friend involved with a knitting group in town and they have promised us 300 woollen hats for the small children when we distribute the toys on Three Kings day...

This is  Angel with his new hat and now my friends have  a good idea of what size of hat to make!

This is the lovely lady that lost her husband a few weeks ago and she also has an disabled adult son living with her she is always so happy and thankful to see us...

I know there is so much need in the campos and I thank everyone for their wonderful continued support of this project and also the Three Kings Toy drive..

Took Frida on a great walk around centro and then picked up my scooter from the repair shop....the cost to repair my flat rear tire...50 pesos, yes that is not a typo!!

Thursday 21 st October 2021...Mexico!!

So this is how it works in Mexico.....

Yesterday afternoon on  my way to poker I got a complete flat tire on the rear wheel of my scooter 

I was able to push it the 200 yards to Ray’s house where we play poker and Ray kindly let me keep the scooter there overnight.

This morning after tennis I had arranged for my friend Beto to come pick me up in his truck and we were going to go and get the scooter and take it to the repair shop.

Unfortunately  Beto became sick overnight and he texted me saying he was so sorry he could not help me this morning......so there I was at the tennis courts with no way to get my scooter to the  shop......Plan B except I did not have a plan B......

This is what I love about Mexico and it’s people......I stood on the street corner and decided to flag down the first small truck that I saw drive by and I did and he stopped.

I tried to explain that I needed to hire him for thirty minutes and offered him 300 pesos......the man told me to get in the truck and off we went to Ray’s house which was only five minutes away......my new friend Oswald was a neat guy and spoke a little English.

We loaded the scooter on the back of the truck and I sat in the back and held on to it and Oswald drove to my repair shop which is on the street where I live....

Unloaded and the whole process took 25 minutes!!

I will pick up the scooter mañana...what is not to love about this story??

Wednesday 20 th October 2021.... a full day!!

Took Gracie’s dogs out to one of my favourite canyons this morning....

We had a nice hike and they loved being out there...

The winning continued at poker only 100 pesos but still a win!!

After poker I picked up Frida and we enjoyed our walk all around the hood, she is a great dog well behaved on the leash.

Finally I met up with Martha and we had our talk for an hour...her English is excellent ....

Now going to watch a soccer game!!
