Saturday 19th January 2019.......the weekend comes quickly!!!

It seems the problem I was having with down loading the photos on to my blog was a temporary issue.....

So yesterday I was out on the scooter and saw the line up at the Mobil station which has been the only station regularly selling gas was down to maybe thirty cars....so I quickly drove to Gracie’s house and got my car and went and got in the line up...the indicator on my dash said I had zero gas!!!!

Fortunately I was able to get to the pumps and filled her up 1050 pesos worth...so now all is good..the car is full...

..the scooter is full....

And when Gracies car comes out of the shop her car is full too...

It seems the gas situation bis getting better but after that awful explosion outside of Mexico City that killed so many people it is still not resolved!!

So the maps in the previous posts show my planned trip at the end of February which I look forward to.

Gracie and her friend Gabrielle had a joint birthday celebration at a local restaurant last night which was a lot of fun especially when the birthday cake arrived!!!

Life is seeming to return to normal after the work of the Three Kings which I so enjoyed and so grateful to many people...I have  written and thanked everyone and also put a thank you letter in this weeks local newspaper!!!

had a great game of tennis this morning and I am enjoying watching live tennis from Melbourne!!

great weather life is good and I am blessed!!!

8th January 2019...birthdays!!!

There are two special birthdays today!!

My longtime and wonderful friend Linda is celebrating her birthday with her family in Tucson and Emily, Gracie’s daughter, is celebrating her birthday with her new baby Isabel and &amply in New Jersey..best wishes and hugs to you both!!

As I mentioned a few days ago I have a long road trip coming up at the end of February.....I have to leave Mexico in order to renew my tourist visa and car permit...this I have to do every 180 days...

So the plan is to drive to Rincon de Guayabitos which is about one hour north of Puerto Vallarta and visit with my long time friends Gail and Larry and Arlene and Doug....they spend their winters at the beach there and have done so for many years and I always get a visit in with them.

Then a two day drive north to Nogales on the Arizona border where I shall overnight and then drive the short distance to Tucson and spend four days there visiting with another lovely and long time friend Linda!!!

Then it is down to Douglas another Arizona border town, get my Mexican paperwork and then cross over the next day and drive through the wonderful mountains into Chihuahua and spend the night and the next day drive back home!!

I know this is a long drive but for me that is part of the fun and adventure and I shall sure enjoy my time with my friends!!!!

I still have been able to fix the issue that I cannot download my photos to this blog...very frustrating will try to get some help over the weekend at the top heading is the message I keep getting..any ideas????

Wednesday 16th January 2018....busy days!!!

Yesterday was Gracie’s birthday!!!!

The morning started with the usual Tuesday morning tennis get together always fun and played under lovely blue skies.....

I then bit the bullet and got on my scooter went to a friends house borrowed a two gallon gas container and scouted out the gas stations all of them were closed but Mobil said they might get gas soon..so I parked and walked to the station and was first in the people line but don’t know how long a wait it will be!!!

So I was sitting on the steps about thirty feet from the pumps with the bright red gas container in front of me

and had waited about two hours when an American man approached me and told me that the gas attendants would not fill the container they had been instructed by the police to only fill vehicles.....I thanked  him and took my container to one of the attendants and asked if when they got gas they would fill my container and he said no....I did not have the knowledge of the language to ask him why no one would have told me that it was obvious bi was waiting for gas!!!

I have since learned that it is a cultural thing I did not ask them and they did not feel obliged to tell me.....obviously disappointed I went home!!

Afterwards got some beautiful flowers for Gracie and went to her house and made mashed potatoes for a party of five.....her friend Bo had invited us and two friends to his house where he was going to cook steak and I was providing the mashed spuds and dessert...

We had a little party for Gracie followed by an evening of Mexican train!!!

It was great fun and a nice birthday day!!!

This morning I took Gracie on the scooter to pay some bills all over town and then went to poker...what can I say???

Another 100 pesos in the bank!!!

I realized that now the scooter was almost out of gas so I went back to Mobil and waited in line for gas...it was about a 45 minute wait but I did fill up the tank...so I am good now.....eventually when the gas crisis is over I will take the car to get it filled!!

Tonight had a great English class my five students attended and we had a lot of fun doing interviews...playing charades and of course the usual Wednesday pay it forward and chocolates!!

For some strange reason I am not able to post the photos..will try them manana!!

Monday 14th January 2019... another week!!!

For the next few weeks my gym sessions will be at 8.30 am and not at 4.30pm...although I am not a huge fan of working out so early it makes it so much easier for me to do so as when I do the late session both days I have to go almost straight to my English class.....so for a while my schedule will be a tad easier!!!

After my session this morning Gracie and I attempted to go into town and do some errands but the traffic was horrendous and I know I am almost on fumes in my car......her car is not ready yet waiting for the part to come from Guadalajara and maybe Wednesday...so I decided we would drive back home and go buy Gracie a crash helmet which we did and now we can get around on the scooter...we both have class the same nights this week so it will all work out.

The good news is that more gas stations are open today but the bad news is the line ups are so long...

..I may in the end if her car is not ready is take mine and just get in line and wait!!

Class tonight was great their homework assignment was for them to be teacher for at least five minutes and some of the plans they came up with were really insightful and great.......

Starting to watch a bit of tennis on Tv live from Melbourne with happy memories of attending there a few years ago!!

Sunday 13 th January 2019......a little chore!!!

This morning Gracie and I took the dogs for a walk..we usually go to the mountains just outside of town but you know no gas!!!!!!  So we walked it was nice you always get to see things you don’t when you are driving or on the scooter.

Now a funny story......

Gracie has this beautiful home and garden...

On two smallish sections of her garden Beto, the handyman had put small white stones as a covering over one section and a partial covering over another section....this second section needed a lot more white stones...so whilst I was babysitting and housesitting I thought I would earn bonus points, not that I need them, and I bought a 30 pound bag of white stones and liberally scattered them over the second section!!

Gracie told me on Thursday that this was all her fault she never liked the white stones in the first place and she should have told me...so now we have white stones in two sections not liked by the lady of the house...

So this afternoon I was down on my hands and knees and picking up all the white stones from the two sections!!!!

Took me a while but I defy anyone to find a white stone anywhere in the gardens....we laughed about this.

Gas update.....no gas anywhere in town today!!!!

Going to watch a movie with tea and a nice piece of carrot cake!!!

Travel update....I made plans tonight to go on a 12 day road trip as I have to leave the country in order to renew my tourist visa....so more details about that later in the week!!!

Saturday 12th January 2019...no gas!!!

The big problem in town is the gas shortage..only really one station is open and the line up is silly.....we had it all worked out I filled up Gracie’s car because I was going to pick her at the bus station but after poker and I got in hr car to go I could not start the car the switch would not work....so I quickly got a cab to my house to get my car key and go get my car and off to pick her up which was Ok except I did not have much gas in my car....

Anyway I did get her...her car which is full of gas is in the repair shop for the weekend...my car is almost on empty..but I do have gas in the scooter so it is not really a problem right now.....but it is a serious situation and I heard the President now closed all the pipelines..so will see what happens!!!!

Have a great weekend !!!

Love the Irish!!!

I played tennis this morning at 11 am with another group...the competition was a tad higher than my other group and I got a great and fun workout and enjoyed the games!!

Really spent most of the afternoon with Gracie and she had some appointments so I was the driver.......

We had an early light dinner together and sorted some things out about upcoming plans for the next couple of months.....

Gracie is not feeling 100% I think she may have got a cold bug from the time in New Jersey hope she feels better soon.

Quiet night at home doing some compute work and soon going to watch a movie!!

Thursday 10 th January 2019.....not much going on!!

Well it was a tad cool riding to tennis this morning but fine when the sun showed its face and a good match....

Afterwards I won’t bore you with the details but I spent most of the day going back and forth with my scooter and car......it’s complicated but fine and all is well.

Only two students showed up for class but that me time to have close and personal talks and we played at being a famous person and being interviewed..they had to use their Brian’s to make up answers and I know they really enjoyed a different lesson..very proud of them.

This is interesting and I did not know about it thanks Brian for sending it to me!!

We are all 2018 today  –    Today the whole world is the same age.

Today is a very special day. It happens only once every 1,000 years.

Your age + your year of birth = 2018.

This is true for everyone.

It is both strange and inexplicable.

Try it and see.

It will not happen again for another 1,000 years.

Wednesday 9th January 2019...home again!

It is all working out for Gracie’s return later on today..she is now on the flight which left Newark at 9.30 am and she will be in Mexico City around 2pm....

The arrangement we have is that she will exit the terminal and get on a first class bus to the city of Queretaro.......and I will drive to QTO to pick her up at the bust station.

So first things first this morning I tidied up the house for the arrival of Lilly at 10 am, she is the house cleaner that Gracie has employed for five years.....

Then I took the car and left it at the car wash place where they will give her the works for 100 pesos....

Walked the dogs a couple of blocks to the pet groomers where they are having hair cuts and spa treatments....

I then walked home got the scooter and did a few errands and bought some fruit and veggies...

Next I did things in reverse order..went and picked up the car which looks awesome......picked up the dogs they look so cute and so different with hair cuts....

Packed up a few drinks and snacks and off to poker....we have changed locations again it was just not working out at the testy we were at for the last few months so we now play at Mort’s house......I told them I would have to leave by 3pm but that was enough time to continue the win streak with a 120 Pesos windfall!!!

Then drove to QTO...this is one of the largest growing cities in Mexico and the traffic is always very congested..the bust station is easy to find and I got a parking spot and only had to wait a short while for Gracie to arrive.....

It was great to see her again and hear all the baby stories.....the drive home was easy and we arrived back around 7pm...

The dogs were overjoyed to see her again and I know now I am second fiddle again!!!!

So those three weeks went by quickly and we can now resume our regularly lives and activities!!!

This is an interesting and unknown fact to me about border security in the USA!!

Do most illegal entries take place at the southern border?

Illegal border crossings are not limited to the southern border - in 2017, for example, there were also 3,027 illegal apprehensions along the Canadian border and 3,588 from the coastal border.

While cross-border migrants often make headlines, the largest number of illegal migrants settling in the US each year is those who stay in the country after their visas expire.

According to the most recent reports by the Department of Homeland Security and the Center for Migration Studies, a non-partisan think-tank, the number who overstayed their visas has outnumbered those who crossed the border illegally every year since 2007.

Canadians make up the largest group of these illegal migrants, followed by Mexicans.

In 2016, there were a total of 739,478 overstays, compared to 563,204 illegal border crossings.

It's also important to note that, according to the Pew Research Center, overall the number of immigrants living in the US illegally has actually declined since 2007, in large part due to a dip in the number of people coming from Mexico. Apprehensions at the south-western border peaked in 2000, at 1.64 million.

In total, Pew estimates that in 2016, there were 10.7 million unauthorised immigrants living in the USA!

Monday 7th January 2019...new start ups!!!!

Taken from the Mexican daily news!!!

The gasoline shortage has worsened in at least six states and will persist in the coming days, a situation which President López Obrador reiterated today is due to logistics rather than a lack of supply.

Shortages in Michoacán, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, México state and Jalisco were first reported on December 31, meaning that motorists in those states are now entering a second week without any certainty that they will be able to fill up.

López Obrador told a press conference Friday that the state oil company is making greater use of tanker trucks to transport fuel rather than pipelines as part of the strategy to combat fuel theft, explaining that was the cause of the gas shortages.

In Michoacán, the shortage has affected 320 gas stations, especially those located in the state capital, Morelia.

Some stations operated by private companies, such as G500, have closed completely while many of those operated by Pemex have imposed 10-liter limits on gas purchases or are only operating a few hours a day.

At least 90 gas stations in Querétaro have been affected by the shortages while over the past week, Guanajuato has only received enough fuel to meet one-third of demand.

Long lines of cars were seen waiting at gas stations over the weekend in the latter state, the news website Noticieros Televisa reported. Lineups in many cases were over a kilometer long, according to another report. Some motorists even slept in their cars to ensure that they would be able to fill up.

Among the municipalities affected are Guanajuato, León, Silao, Irapuato, Salamanca, Celaya, Apaseo El Alto, Apaseo El Grande, Comonfort and Yuriria.

In Hidalgo, Pachuca and the Mezquital Valley area are the hardest hit by the shortage, with many gas stations only able to offer premium fuel.

Almost 200 gas stations in 14 México state municipalities now have no gas while 80% of all gas stations in Guadalajara, Jalisco, are in the same situation.

Jalisco has received just 10% of the fuel it requires over the past week and many gas stations are imposing limits on the amount of fuel they will sell.

Pemex said in a statement that the fuel shortages in the six aforementioned states will continue, adding that while there have been distribution delays “there is enough product to cover demand.”

At a press conference this morning, López Obrador again stressed that the lack of gas in some states was due to the government’s decision to close some petroleum pipelines and instead transport fuel by tanker truck.

“I can say . . . to all Mexicans that we have enough gasoline, there is no shortage problem, what we’re paying attention to is its distribution. We’re not opening the pipelines so that there are no leaks [via illegal taps] . . .” he said.

However, one pipeline was reopened yesterday. Guanajuato Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez said the Salamanca-León pipeline was put back into service to supply gas stations in the state.

López Obrador said the government was committed to resolving the shortage problem but declined to say how long it would take.

“We’re going to confront it and resolve it. How long is it going to take us? It will depend on who tires first [between] those who steal fuel and us . . . I’m persistent, we know that it’s not going to be easy but we’re not going to waver,” he said.

The president also said that an additional 900 soldiers would be deployed today to strengthen surveillance of Pemex infrastructure.

“Today, the surveillance plan using elements of the army is going to be strengthened and we’re going to continue to strengthen it but the supply [of gas] is going to return to normal and at the same time we’re going to guarantee that fuel isn’t stolen,” López Obrador said.

He said that the government’s anti-fuel theft strategy is “progressing well,” claiming that while theft hasn’t stopped completely it has “declined a lot.”

López Obrador urged fuel thieves known as huachicoleros to give up their lives of crime.

“. . . Now there are alternatives in the legal, formal economy . . . Young people can sign up as apprentices and he who wants to open a business has access to cheap credit,” he said.

I knew my scooter was very low on gas so after breakfast I set out to check out the gas stations  around the town and found only one selling ⛽️..I patiently waited in line and after about 45 minutes filled her up!!

Did some chores in town and then came home..worked some more in the yard and then just relaxed until it was time for me to go to my first gym session of the new year.....Aaron knew about my sickness over the holidays and today’s session was hard although not the really hard one I am used to.....it was good to be in the gym again but I must say I do not really enjoy the sessions but glad that I went when the hour is up!!

From there is was across the street for my first night of English class...four students were there and we sat around and talked about our holidays and the difference in traditions...it was a great class....

Have to start getting the house ready for Gracie’s return late Wednesday night!!!

Sunday 6th January 2019......mini road trip!!!

My plan all along had been after the hectic Three Kings event to chill and to take the dogs on a mini road trip to new mountains......

This was all going well until last night when I found out about the gas shortage going on....so I left it in the hands of fate...

I woke early this morning so around 7.15am I took the car to a gas station close by and was happy to see there was a line up of about fifty cars....good sign that means they are selling gas.

Waited patiently for my turn and I fully expected to be told I could only have a small amount of gas...but no ..filled up her 800 pesos worth!!!!

The whole process took me an hour but it was worth it because it means I could go on the road trip.

So packed up some food and drinks for me and the dogs and away we went..I had sort of a plan to do this circular route...

It worked out really well after about45 minutes the scenery changed to mountains...

And then saw this lake in the distance ...

and thought it would be a good place to walk the dogs....

and it was a great walk with wonder views....

Check out his boat!!!!

Back on the road and again more awesome views.....

Now it was time to find a lunch stop and boy was I lucky around almost the next corner was this....

We walked down to the water and relaxed and had lunch.....

We arrived back home without any incidents noting only two gas stations opened with long lines but I read the Governor has ordered the pipelines to be opened and they are saying regular service tomorrow...I hope so as Pili, my scooter badly needs a drink!!

Notice the clean yard and my BBQ burger for tonight!!

Joey my friend sent two more photos from Friday..she has a wonderful eye and love the horse photo..

This next one is special to me because this is the kid that I stopped and kicked the soccer ball to in the field!!!!

What a week!!!!!

Saturday 5th January 2019...I had no choice!!

This was a crazy day..I left for tennis on the scooter and soon realized that this was the big Three Kings shopping day...most locals celebrate this holiday more than Christmas and a lot of roads around where I am were closed and market stalls erected!!!!

It was a maze of stalls and closed roads but made it to tennis just in time.....wonderful relaxing and fun time on the courts.

After tennis was the next problem..trying to get ⛽️ gas!!

There is a gas shortage or should I say a gas delivery shortage and I tried seven gas stations and all closed no gas......

This state is having some cartel issues concerning the theft of fuel and it seems this gas shortage may last a while.....I was going to go on road trip tomorrow but won’t unless I can get gas for the car...do not know how long this might last but it will cause many problems!!!

So I just stayed home..relaxed..sent e mails to everyone who donated for the Three Kings Drive.....read my book..worked outside in the yard.....

Just now had dinner and now heading to the tub and then a movie....

Some more photos ofIsabel...

and also some more from yesterday!!

and the dogs!!!

Lovely flowers...
