Monday 2nd September 2013…the start of a busy month!!

Monday morning means Paty comes to clean the casita and she is always on time and does a really good job….after she arrived I went into town to do some banking and chores and treated myself to a fresh orange juice and a wonderful slice of banana bread at a small restaurant near home it is also a place to exchange books so I did that as well.

I then went to an open meeting sponsored by the American Consul here in SMA where he had invited Mexican Immigration officials to come talk and answer questions….it was well attended and confirmed what I already knew about my own status.

After the meeting I went to Paola’s house and she was home and I told her I would pick her up tomorrow to go biking after school.

So tonight was the first night of my teaching assignment…I am teaching English to Mexican adults….I was given a text book and tried for over an hour this morning to figure out a class plan but I realized until I actually met the students and talked with them to see what level they were at a plan would not be any use.

So I arrived in plenty of time to my assigned class room

I had 8 people signed up for the class and only 6 of them showed up….one young man 19 years old wanting to go to college…the rest of the class were female…one 17 year old high school student….one 23 year old …2 women who are in the work force and one lady who is a Spanish teacher…so a nice diverse group……I started by introducing myself and a little bit of history and told them the class room was a safe place and an questions were welcome..then I got them to tell a little bit about them selves and I was surprised they are all very skilled in English.  I then got them to read a paragraph out aloud and I explained any words they did not understand and they all also have a great command of the written word….we finished the class by an open discussion and I assigned them a small amount of homework.

I felt they all enjoyed the class and were active and interested and I also felt I did a good job but know I have to get a good structure each class for them.  The time went by quickly and it was just a great evening.

Came home and had supper watching live tennis from New York.
