Peña de Bernal (in English: Bernal's Boulder or Bernal Peak) is the second-largest monolith in the world, after Mt. Augustus, Western Australia. At 350 meters (1150 ft) it is also the fourth-tallest monolith in the world, after Mount Augustus, the Rock of Gibraltar and Sugarloaf Mountain.
Peña de Bernal is located in San Sebastián Bernal, a small town in the Mexican state of Querétaro. .[1]
According to Leonor López Domínguez of México Desconocido, the porphyrytic monolith was formed some 100 million years ago during the Jurassic period, when it must have been at least three times higher than today.[1]
Many people make a pilgrimage to the highest point hike able, visiting a little chapel about halfway up. On the Spring equinox, people gather all dressed in white to form a human belt around the monolith.[
The above was taken from Wikipedia.
The drive was an easy one of about 90 minutes before we saw our first sign.
The street are very clean and small
and the main plaza is beautiful.
The main attraction is visible from most points in the town.
The story of the monolith apart from the energy it radiates is that the local people enjoy longevity as shown by these photos….
of course always find those beautiful kids!!!!
The area here is also well known for it’s wool products and Sara could not pass up this bargain, real wool, hand woven and 7 dollars….
The poses I have to get in to!!!
We really enjoyed this small town and then moved onto another small town called…
Again another gem of a plaza..
Sara has a knack for finding market stalls!!!
We arrived back in SMA around 7pm after a great day and now it is time for my usual “I think I can beat Sara” time…..
