Tuesday 19th March 2013…Day 6!!!

It is your lucky day!!!!!
It has been ages since the last Pearson FREE escorted tour so about time so remember the rules, no charge but gratuities are accepted. you have to have a coffee or a tea and be sitting on the couch…OK??
So let us get going!!!!
Up at 7am and decision time I was going to travel the 80 km to San Ignacio the second of the lagoons where the whales come but the choice was what do I do when I get there.  from the guide books I have read the lagoon is 70 km from town 35 km of that on gravel roads but that is where you could get the boats……so I decided when I got to town it would be 8am and I would scout it out….the road was interesting

Pretty high elevation!!
DSCF8407
It was a nice drive and the town is quite small built around this lovely Mission!!
DSCF8409
I went to three whale watching stores and two of them wanted over 125 dollars which would include transportation to and from the lagoon which appealed to me. The third place I went into after talking to the lady she told me they had a party of 14 booked but could squeeze me in and she would charge me only 65 dollars!!!!  This included a ride there and back two hours of whale watching and lunch..so I signed up.
We left at 9am and after we hit the gravel I was so glad I did not bring Little Bluey down here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took is almost 2 hours and when we got to the lagoon it was a maze of places and I would never have found my way so again glad for the tour.
We found our camp and they divided us up into 2 boats with 7 in each a perfect number and away we went.
Antonio our Captain was brilliant and after ten minutes we were in the lagoon….now are you sitting comfortably?  Are you ready for this??
The good old English word GOBSMACKED comes to mind….Google it if you do not know what it means!!!
OK I think in this case a photo speaks a 1000 words!!!!

DSCF8491
Each year the California grey whales travel between 5000 and 6000 miles from Alaska and Siberia to the Baja the journey takes between 2 and 3 months and is one of the longest animal migration on earth!!
DSCF8520
As we were about to leave and head back Antonio said one more minute he must have know because 6 whales came up to the boat and played and even lifted the front of the boat out of the water maybe 2 feet..they played for about 5 minutes then took off…….it was a surreal experience I have already decided not to go to the next lagoon tomorrow there is no way anything could top this day!!!!
We came back to camp and had lunch and YES Carolyn and Linda I had fish tacos this time..they were awesome and then the journey back…..total 7 hours at a cost that cannot be fathomed in dollars what a day…BUT wait not over yet!!!
I thought there was a B & B outside of town that looked interesting if they had a room I would stay and if not I would get on the road for three hours..well they had one room left and it was mine for 65 dollars which includes a Canadian English breakfast of bacon, ham and eggs..wait till you see my YURT!!!!!!!

Wednesday 14th July 2021...a gorgeous sunny day

And lucky for me I had been asked to sub into a game this morning so had two hours on the courts....

came home and took Frida out for a short walk before going to the regular Wednesday afternoon poker game...I must boast that I very rarely lose at these games...we don’t play for high stakes but I always seem to win BUT not today....I could tell after the first few hands it was not going to be my day and I lost 150 pesosπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Finally at 5.30 pm I went to meet my student, Martha, we meet in a small park close to her house and I love the time we talk and it is the quickest hour of the week.....today I got Martha to tell me all about her life from growing up to now.......she has led a very interesting life and has lived in the USA for a few years her English is really very good.

Going to have a shower and then watch my show!!

Stay safe and healthy!,

Monday 12 th July 2021..mini road trip!!

I have decided that because my lovely friend Lilly comes to clean my casita on Monday mornings to

have this day as my day of exploring!

So I packed up a lunch and was on the road by 9.30am with a goal of looking for this place...

It was about a ninety mi drive and I have to admit I was stumped this was as close as I could come to where I thought it was...

After I took this photo I looked at Blaze and saw that the glass on the right bottom indicator side was broken.....I stopped when I got home and I have my mechanic ordering a part and getting it installed on Wednesday!

No mind I enjoyed the drive and on the way back found a nice path along the side of the river to walk.

Before the rain started I decided to see if I could trim this hedge.....

I had a long ladder and clippers and I went part way up the ladder but wisely decided that I was not comfortable up there so came down and now will revert to plan B when I form one!

So now all the hockey, soccer and tennis games have finished, the pancake breakfast finished so I might have some free time but knowing me I shall get busy soon doing something!!

Frida is now home and I get to see her maΓ±ana!!

Stay safe and healthy!!

Sunday 11 th July 2021...party time!

You know it has rained most days for the last two weeks and it rained most of the night so imagine my delight and surprise to wake up to sunny skies...

This was the big day for the kids in the village Morelos.....with many amazing volunteers off we went to the village and the kids were treated to Bananas and yogurt, Pancakes and sausages, face painting, horse back rides, art classes, bouncy house,  soccer and finally piΓ±atas....

As I was thanking the volunteers as they left I told them four hours of total fun with nearly 40 kids...not one scream, fight, cry, push....they were totally thankful and happy.

Could not have done this with out many kind donations and my team..bless you all!!

Enjoy the photos...

Do you think he managed a quick pancake????

Saturday 10 th July 2021.....still raining

So no tennis again this morning BUT............

It was the women’s final from Wimbledon so of course I enjoyed that match..

You know I was at Wimbledon nine years and of course partook of their famous item...

Emerald green grass and pristine white outfits are the hallmark of Wimbledon. But the experience would be incomplete without a dash of garish red. Like the mint julep at Churchill Downs or the pimento cheese sandwich at the Masters, Wimbledon is as much about fresh strawberries and sweet, clotted cream as it is about tennis.

Tennis' most prestigious major is approaching the final rounds at the All England Club in southwest London, and while the groundskeepers were meticulously watering, trimming and feeding the lawns in preparation for play, farmers in southern Kent were just as meticulously watering, feeding and preparing to harvest their ruby red jewels.

How strawberries and cream came to be such an integral part of Wimbledon remains a bit of a mystery. There is no historical connection between the fruit and tennis. But during the fortnight of the tournament, nearly 150,000 servings of strawberries will be consumed.

"It was probably two things -- strawberries were in season at the time the tournament was played, and in Victorian England they had become a fashionable thing to eat," Johnny Perkins, head of PR for the All England Club, told CNN in 2015.

Strawberries At Wimbledon And so strawberries became entwined with Wimbledon. According to the Wimbledon website, 140,000 servings of strawberries and 10,000 liters of cream were served at the 2015 tournament. The strawberries, which have sold for £2.50 ($3.59) since 2010, come in a small box called a “punnet” containing a minimum of 10 berries. A little more than 8,600 punnets were served per day in 2012. The berries are often paired with a glass of Pimm's Cup or champagne.

Strawberries are the No. 1 single food item served at the All England Club, though fans did partake in plenty of other edible goodies:

-- 110,000 sandwiches and baguettes

-- 86,000 servings of ice cream

-- 30,000 stone-baked pizzas

-- 25,000 scones

-- 16,000 servings of fish and chips

-- 10,000 servings of frozen yogurt

Of all the items on that list, only scones and fish-and-chips feel decidedly English. But strawberries do have a bit of history among the English elite. As a perishable food, strawberries were only available for a limited interval in Victorian England, and their availability signaled the start of summer (such as it is in England). Strawberries evolved into a luxury, generally only for the wealthy, and began to be included as part of afternoon tea in the early summer. The timing of the harvest and availability coincided with Wimbledon. Andy Murray With Wimbledon Strawberry

According to the Independent, strawberries and cream were first served together in 1509, when Cardinal Thomas Wosley paired them at a banquet during Henry VIII's reign. The combination stuck and nearly 400 years later was among the offerings at the first Wimbledon tournament in 1877.

With the evolution of technology, strawberries are now available at Wimbledon year round and the ones fans will eat during the tournament are harvested in the darkness on the same day they will be delivered to the All England Club. All Wimbledon strawberries are grown in Kent County, which is adjacent to the city of London, and about an hour southwest of Wimbledon.

While fans can purchase strawberries and cream at most any dining outlet on the Wimbledon grounds, one of the more traditional ways to experience the specialty is with a pre-ordered afternoon picnic, which includes two sandwiches, fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, Kentish strawberries and cream, a selection of afternoon tea pastries, two cups of tea and two bottles of water. The picnic is available via online order for £42.00 (roughly $55 U.S.) and may be eaten anywhere on the grounds, including the many terraces, grassy areas and tables set throughout the venue.

I did not have whipped cream but I did have fresh strawberries and yogurt!!!!

I really spent the rest of the day doing errands regarding the big event tomorrow and I think I am all set...I have eleven amazing volunteers to help feed the kids and give them four hours of fun and games...sure hope the rain stays away.

Late this afternoon a huge storm passed through with hail and the hardest rain I think I have ever seen but some good news is I contacted my friend Joyce who lives in the village where we are going tomorrow and they had no rain...

Stay safe and healthy!!

Friday 9 th July 2021....the sports blitz is winding down!!!

I had breakfast at Wimbledon this morning..I thoroughly enjoyed watching both men’s singles semi finals today especially as one involved a Canadian kid.....he gave it his all but I maintain as in many games I watch they loose the games not because of their tennis skills but because of their mind set and head games......anyway it was a great way to pass the morning and some of the afternoon!!

I want to do as much shopping as I can in my hood for the supplies for the big event πŸ₯žπŸ₯žπŸ₯žπŸ₯žπŸ₯žπŸ₯žon Sunday and I was able to buy all the paper products and some other items but for the rest I went to Celaya the next big town over and went to the large Walmart store and picked up the rest...just need to get a couple more things tomorrow...it should be a great event just hoping the weather cooperates...as I write it is raining really hard so I doubt I shall be playing in the morning😩😩😩😩🎾

Found another good detective series on Brit Box that I am enjoying..

Stay safe and healthy!!

Thursday 8th July 2021..rain!!

Happy birthday to my great friend Kirby on Vancouver Island and glad you and Heather celebrated on Savoury Island and dinner tonight with the family!!

Darn that rain, tennis cancelled again!!!

I spent a lot of the day getting plans prepared for the big event for the kids on Sunday in the village where we take food hampers.......

This is the view from my kitchen table....

I did watch a great ladies match from Wimbledon!!!

This below report is so sad the mentality of some people!!

Euro 2020: England charged by Uefa.

Uefa has charged England after a laser pointer was directed at Denmark keeper Kasper Schmeichel during Wednesday's Euro 2020 semi-final at Wembley.

Television pictures showed a green light on Schmeichel's face just before Harry Kane took an extra-time penalty.

Schmeichel saved the spot-kick but Kane scored the rebound as England won 2-1 to reach Sunday's final against Italy.

England are also charged with causing a "disturbance" during Denmark's national anthem and setting off fireworks.

"The case will be dealt with by the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course," said a statement from European football's governing body.

There was some booing heard during the Danish national anthem and that has been criticised by Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official spokesman.

"We don't want fans to be booing teams," said the spokesman. "We want fans to be showing support and being respectful.

"Uefa are looking into that, that's a matter for them but it's not something we would want to see."

The Football Association and Uefa officials searched for the source of the laser pointer when they were first made aware of it being used during the first half of extra time.

However, they were unable to find those responsible.

Following the game the Danish FA representatives were asked if they wanted to make an official complaint, but said they did not wish to take the matter any further.

Then the good news...hope you can watch this!!

Wish most of our super sports heroes were like this!!

Wednesday 7th July 2021...busy again!!

My days seem to be filled which I plan for and do enjoy but I also know how to have down time too

But the next few days will be busy organizing the pancake breakfast and fun activities for kids in the campo on Sunday.

I was invited to fill in at tennis this morning and I am always happy to pick up and extra game and had fun.....

Came home and watched some exciting tennis from Wimbledon but sad to see my hero eliminated!!

then went out for the poker afternoon...the winning ways continue this time I won 100 pesos.

As luck would have it got home in time to watch the overtime between England and Denmark for the European soccer semi finals and England managed to eke out a win.

My day had not finished as at 5.30pm I went out to centro and met with Marta my long standing friend and English student and we talked for over an hour....

finally home and now watching the hockey finals with Montreal and Tampa Bay!!

Tuesday 6th July 2021...counting those blessings...

One of those days when I woke up just being so thankful for everything in my life.......

I am so blessed with an amazing family and I spoke to Janet and Malc yesterday from the comfort of my casita....happy to know they are both doing well and safe and healthy, their kids and grandson all doing well.

Fortunate to be able to get around pretty well on the tennis courts for two hours this morning and to have fun and a few good shots thrown in.

Then to be able to come home and a live soccer game from England...

Followed by meeting my young student Vane for an hour...she is only twenty years of age but very mature and dedicated to her family and getting her degree and learning English..it is such a pleasure to be able to help her a little and learn more about her and her family and her culture.

Then happy to finish the day off by going to the restaurant almost next door and to meet up with four of my great friends that I have know from my RV ing days all those years ago....we had a great dinner and conversations!!

Yes I am blessed for sure!!

Stay safe and healthy!!
