Was all packed up and hit the road at 9.30am I was hopefully going to find an old volcano crater but I only had directions to the trail head so no expectations…..it was a bit cloudy but then got sunny and I turned off the highway about 4 km outside of town passed through the very small very clean village of Los Barcas
to the trailhead
X is where I think I need to be…
the start of the trail and it was up hill but easy to follow and the views back into town and of the the Presa(lake) were very nice!!
Saw a couple of other hikers on the trail one having lunch!!!!
So far it was all up hill so lunch was very welcome
the trail was easy to follow until I got to this gate absolutely in the middle of nowhere
From here there was no trail and I did follow the creek bed up hill for a while but soon realized I was just getting higher and higher…… part of me. the obstinate part, wanted to keep going but the sensible part was telling me to return the way I had come and the sensible side won out so I turned around and came back.
It was a good hike and I enjoyed the solitude , the views and the exercise…
Came back to town and did some chores before coming home……
Hoping now it will not rain before morning so I can at last play tennis this week…..
I want to wish all my Canadian and American readers a very happy and safe long weekend!!!

So up at 7.30am to go do my Feed the Hungry delivery run if you are not sure what this is if you read the post from last Tuesday there I tell you all about it and show photos……Picked up the food and the two young cooks were waiting for me at the school and again a couple of the little kids helped carry some of the food…..I was supposed to go straight from the school to tennis but yet again yesterday’s rain caused the cancellation of my game.
I then went into town to meet my fellow Canadian friend Jack who took me to his bank and walked me through the process of opening an account which means I will save on ATM fees……then home for lunch and I noticed that my car had one headlight out so I went to my fixit man Silvestre and he said he had a friend who could replace the bulb so he went with me to this small mechanic shop where the owner changed the bulb in about 10 minutes it was quite hard to get to but he did it and charged me 60 pesos!!!!
Then off to get Paola as we had a 2pm date but she was not home when I went over……so I went to town and did some shopping and went back to her house later in the afternoon and she was home we went for a bike ride..picked up a cooked chicken and she told me she has got her school uniform so I am happy about that and she was happy when I dropped her home…..from there straight to my yoga class…so you see my days are filled!!!

Blue is definitely not the color of the sky very overcast and I am sure glad I was not scheduled to play tennis this morning.
10 am off to my yoga class this is my fifth class and I feel I am getting a little more flexible I sure enjoy the class and the teacher but tomorrow is her last class for a month she is off on a retreat for the month of September and a substitute teacher is coming in.
After class I came home for lunch and then started towards town for my last lecture class but half way there the heavens opened and I was completely drenched so I turned around and came home and for a treat got to watch a live evening soccer game from England it was billed as the game of the season between the two top clubs but it was like the weather dreary and not exciting.
After the game I went round the corner to the neighborhood store for some fruit and the broccoli truck had just arrived!!!
I noticed that the hairdresser’s door was open
so I stopped in for a great haircut and only 30 pesos!!!!!

AND THEN IT IS WINTER
You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.
But, here it is - the ' back nine' of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast ? Where did the years go and where did my youth go ? I remember vividly seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that ' I was only on the first hole' and the ' back nine' was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is . . . my friends are retired and getting grey. They move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me, but, I see the great change. Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant . . . but like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day ! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore . . . it's mandatory ! Cause if I don't on my own free will, I just fall asleep where I sit !
And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did ! But, at least I know, that though I’m on the ' back nine', and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know for sure, that when it's over on this earth . . . it's over. A new adventure will begin !
Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done . . . things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.
So, if you're not on the ' back nine' yet . . . let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly ! Don't put things off too long ! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you’re on the ' back nine' or not ! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life . . . so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember, and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past !
"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.
LIVE IT WELL !
ENJOY TODAY !
DO SOMETHING FUN !
BE HAPPY !
HAVE A GREAT DAY
Remember, "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
LIVE HAPPY IN 2013
LASTLY, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
~Your kids are becoming you . . . but your grandchildren are perfect
~Going out is good . . . Coming home is better !
~You forget names . . . But it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you !
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything . . . especially golf
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore !
~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep".
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..
~You tend to use more 4 letter words . . . "what ?" . . . "when ?". . . ” ???
~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless" !
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
~Everybody whispers.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet . . . 2 of which you will never wear.
~~~But Old is good in some things ~~~ Old Songs, Old Movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS
Stay well, "OLD FRIEND ! " Send this on to other "Old Friends!" and let them laugh in AGREEMENT
It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.
Yashi Koshi!!!
