satu17 th September 2022….Bananas!!

Professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas.  He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.  Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

This is interesting.

After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit.
It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS:
Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia :
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness

Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight
and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips.. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady..

Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control:
Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):
Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:
According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts:
Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit

Friday 16 th September 2022…back to “normal”

Slept wonderfully in my own bed last night and was delighted to hear that Tom safely arrived in Manchester where his Dad was waiting for him…..

My all time hero after Wayne Gretzky!!!

Federer and Nadal played each other 40 times, with Nadal winning 24 of those matches

Roger Federer's decision to retire from tennis is a "sad day" for sport, his great rival Rafael Nadal has said.

Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, announced on Thursday that he would retire after the Laver Cup this month.

Only Spain's Nadal, with 22 majors, and Serbia's Novak Djokovic, with 21, have more men's Grand Slam singles titles than the 41-year-old.

"Dear Roger, my friend and rival. I wish this day would have never come," said Nadal.

"It's a sad day for me personally and for sports around the world."

Nadal defeated Federer 24 times in 40 matches during one of the most celebrated rivalries in tennis history.

"It's been a pleasure but also an honour and privilege to share all these years with you, living so many amazing moments on and off the court," Nadal said.

"We will have many more moments to share together in the future, there are still lots of things to do together, we know that.

"For now, I truly wish you all the happiness with your wife, Mirka, your kids, your family and enjoy what's ahead of you. I'll see you in London."

'The most complete game of his generation'

Federer made his professional debut aged 16 in 1998 and won his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2003.

The chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Ian Hewitt, congratulated Federer on a "truly remarkable career".

"He will forever be celebrated as one of our greatest Wimbledon champions, having lifted the trophy eight times from his 22 appearances at the All England Club," Hewitt added.

Billie Jean King, a 12-time Grand Slam winner, said Federer is a "champion's champion".

"He has the most complete game of his generation and captured the hearts of sports fans around the world with an amazing quickness on the court and a powerful tennis mind," she tweeted.

Former world number one Rod Laver also wrote on Twitter: "Thank you for everything Roger. See you soon."

Eighteen-time Grand Slam singles champion Martina Navratilova said of Federer's announcement: "What a heartfelt message, full of love, life, hope, passion and gratitude. Which is exactly how Roger played the game we love so much. Thank you, thank you thank you, for all the magic!"

Stan Wawrinka, who won doubles gold for Switzerland alongside Federer at the 2008 Olympics, said: "Forever grateful for all the memories on and off the court. Tennis will never be the same without you. Enjoy the next chapter in your life with your beautiful family."

ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said: "He spearheaded an incredible new era of growth and elevated the popularity of our sport. Few athletes have transcended their field in such a manner."

Former British number one Annabel Croft told BBC Radio 5 Live: "When I think of Roger Federer, I think of his grace, his fluidity, his beauty, the way he played tennis.

"What a great icon for the sport, he sort of transcended it.

Thursday 15 th September 2022…Independence Day!!

I was up early and on the road by 6.30am for the six hour drive home…..famous last words!!!!

All was going well, nice drive, great car, food, music and great memories of Tom and I………

Then the traffic just came to a grinding halt about 300 yards from one of the toll booths..everything stopped for 4 yes 4 hours…….I have no idea what happened but in that time they built a mud road over a culvert and finally we drove out that way on to a back rod for an hour eventually joining the toll road a few miles further down…….

Next up was the most incredible down pour of rain I have ever seen..I had to pull over and stop I could not see even with the wipers on full tilt!!!!

Then the sun came out and the drive was smooth just arrived home five hours later than planned…..but happy to be home and in my casita!!

Tom is in Toronto waiting for his connecting flight to Manchester and he should land with his sombrero around 11 am England time!!!

happy memories!!

stay safe and healthy!!

Wednesday 14 th September 2022..farewell Tom!!

Last night when Tom was on his bed reading and I was on the couch writing I felt a slight tremor lasting a few seconds but thought nothing of it……about an hour later we had the most violent thunder and lightening storms and heavy rain and I was surprised to read the following article on the news this morning..

The agency announced that the earthquake was recorded at 37 kilometers east of Petatlán and was 10 kilometers deep.

The Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASMEX) reported that the earthquake did not warrant the activation of the seismic alert, because the energy estimation in the first seconds, did not exceed the pre-established levels.

An alert can be activated for certain cities and not for others, depending on the energy estimate and the distance where the earthquake originates.

For its part, the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) reported on his Twitter account that As of this event, communication is maintained with the state and municipal units of Civil protection and the members of the National Emergency Committee (CNE), to make a preliminary assessment of the area.

According to the bulletin of the Tsunami Warning Center of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), After the earthquake of preliminary magnitude 5.3 to the east of Petatlán, Guerrero, the generation of variations in sea level is not expected due to the location of the epicenter.

I could not find out much more than this and at 11 am we set off to drive Tom to the airport 40 minutes away for his flight to Mexico City where he is staying over night and in the morning he flies back home to England via a three hour stop over in Toronto!!

After I dropped him off I came back here to the Airbnb and it felt so strange not having his smiling face around….I went for a long Beach walk and did another 9000 steps!!

7 pm now and raining but in a few minutes I am going to go for my final swim as I head back home in the morning!

The last 12 days have been an absolute joy for me I have gotten to know my Great Nephew and what an outstanding young man he is…..his desire is to join the British military as an officer and in my humble opinion they would be lucky to have in in their ranks…safe journey home Tom!!

Tuesday 13 th September 2022…Tom the surfer!!

Tom’s last day at the beach was a really fun time for him……I paid  for a surfing lesson for him from Manuel and Carlos and he really did well…enjoy the photos especially as the sun came out!!!

He was hungry afterwards and I made breakfast and then we both went on separate walks on the beach…I did not have Frida but I found a couple of buddies and also the great rock with the tiny holes!!

I then introduced Tom to a very old Pearson tradition…playing scrabble whilst on vacation!!!!

I found another photo of Tom and I taken 8 years ago and I wanted to replicate it so I bought a T shirt the same color and had a friend who has a print shop put the word COOL on it..we both loved the end result!!

Next with the help of modern technology here we are in Troncones watching Tom’s favorite football team in England play a home game live…..sadly the result was not what he wanted.

To end our day we found a lovely small restaurant on the ocean for hamburgers and sunset shots!!!

What a day!!

Stay safe and healthy!!
