Tuesday June 12th 2012…….Rain rain go away!!!!

Need I say more!!!!!

Woke up to rain and it did not stop all day..we had planned to leave this morning but it was too damp..so Plan B…we drove into the city center of Freiburg and with umbrellas had a walk around..it is a large University town with some lovely architecture and the Cathedral although dark very impressive!!!

Yes we had lunch at McD’s…

We then found a large supermarket and stocked on provisions and then returned home it was a good day and the rain did not really bother us.

My friend Croft has asked me about RV's and the parks here….Croft the majority of the Rv’s are like Ramona except a little smaller with no slides.  We see some trailers but no 5th wheels and no large motorhomes.  the RV parks we have stayed at have all been excellent with first rate showers, bathrooms and sites.  Wi Fi is extra and expensive.  My brother has like a Passport America card and the sites we stay on are all 16 Euro’s plus extra for me and the tent for example where we are staying now is in total 22 Euros and is very clean and great site…hope that helps!!

I may not have Internet tomorrow so I want to wish a certain beautiful young lady a very Happy and special 11th Birthday tomorrow!!

Monday 11th June 2012…..enough already!!!!!!!

So I got beat again last night….I had a pretty good reputation as a Scrabble player on two Continents but if I do not win a game soon I shall not be responsible for my actions….Congrats Mally!!!!

We left our campsite on the Rhine this morning by 10am and travelled for a while through rain.  The drive was mainly on good motorways and again Malc had picked out the campsite for us and after a stop for lunch we arrived here in Freiburg at 3pm!!!

All the camp sites so far have been top notch and this was no exception…for 22 Euros we get a great site, room for Tilley and the gorgeous lake 50 yards away…we soon set up we have a great routine and it is easy!!

The lake which has a mechanical water ski set up…. never quite seen one like it but the skiers are attached to a rope and then ski around the lake…neat!!!

Malc and I were hoping to watch England play France in soccer at 6pm and as luck would have it the camp ground was broadcasting the game….It is the European Cup Finals…huge games and we are having fun!!

 

 

It was a very entertaining game which finished in a draw 1 – 1…

Janet prepared another wonderful meal and I was the disher boy, this is my full time job and I love it…..on the way to the dish washing area this was my view!!!

All cleaned up and 10.30pm already and time for the game………be warned I better win!!!!

Sunday 10th June 2012……reflections and a river cruise!!!!

So here is the Champ!!!!   from last night..

Another good sleep and a bright sunny morning so it was chore time!!!!

No comment!!!

The plan today was to walk into the small local town and take a cruise up the Rhine to the town of Boppard about 12 miles up river.

When we walked into the town we saw a confirmation procession!!

Sit back and enjoy the cruise and the lovely small town!!!

What sane person could resist a portion of this???

It was a very special trip and one I shall not forget!!!

We came home for a quick snack (the strawberry tart) and then drove about 15 miles the other way and again took a small ferry across the river to another delightful small town!!!

Malc and I decided it was time for a treat for Janet no cooking so we stopped and they had a great pizza and I had some homemade and very tasty tomato soup….

Back home by 8p, and a wonderful Day!!!

We are all showered and clean and ready to start the game …if I don’t win I shall pout all day tomorrow!!!

 

reflections n the trip so far….

I have to say a huge thank you to Janet..she keeps the ship running…prepares incredible meals and snacks and sings and smiles whilst doing so…..she is taking such great care of me thanks so much!!!

Malc is the driver and the planner and doing a terrific job..I know all too well how tiresome it can be driving in a strange country with not so great road signs and especially for him pulling a trailer…top marks to you and also for all the planning you do!!!

This is totally different for me first off not driving I am able to see the lovely sights…sleeping in a tent I wasn’t sure about at first but now I love it, very  comfortable and cozy….

We travel really well together and have lots of laughs and great times…thank you!!!

Sunday 10th June 2012….into Germany!!

Had another great sleep even though it it is now days and two scrabble games and no victory my ego is a tad bruised!!!!

On the road by 930am heading south and within a few minutes we were in Germany and the scenery changed a bit from the flat rolling hills into high forests….Malc had done some research on where he wanted us to stay and we arrived at the RV site to find it full but no problem 4 miles down the road was another large RV park and we are booked in for 2 nights.

We are right on the banks of the fast flowing Rhine river…this is the view from my tent…

I must tell you that we are having a wonderful time..Janet, Bless her, keeps us so well fed……Malc does all the driving and planning and I try to help where I can…washing dishes, making them laugh…..we travel well together the only problem is that tonight we played another game of scrabble and Mally won again…..I may have to resort to cheating to get my first win!!!
