WELCOME TO KERKYRA (Corfu town)
We drove the hire car into the main town today and spent the day wandering around taking in the sights and smells and the happenings of this bustling city. The down town core is sprawling and cluttered with old high rise tenement buildings and it seems today was wash day.
The red dome of the Ayios Spyridhon Orthodox church dominates the sky line.
The city is guarded on the sea side by two forts the Paleo and Neo forts, meaning old and new forts even though they were only constructed 30 years apart in the late 1500 hundreds.
The views from the old fort are of the ocean
and from the new fort of the old town.
The people who walk the streets..
A great way to see the town, 40 minute train ride.. Of course some people travel many thousand of miles to experience a totally new culture!!!!
Do you think there is a reason why I am still Single??
Did not know the grand old gentleman was born here! More photos of the city core..
They are still doing archaeological digs down town.
Too soon it was time to leave, obviously the day was much too long for the fairer side of the family!!!Sorry girls just had to include that one!!!
Our last evening supper Thanks for all the great meals Janet!!!!
The evening ended with our last game of scrabble and Janet lost by one point again…..
