Wednesday 3rd January 2018....a morning to remember!!!

This morning Zara this amazing vibrant young Mexican woman picked me up and she drove me to one of the schools we shall be visiting on Friday delivering gifts to the kids....This school Zara and her Father started an after schools program and she is heavily involved in the community.

Zara wanted me to come out so I know the lay of the land before our visit on Friday.....the school is about 35 minutes away from town and in the mountains very remote..the y have 26 children in the Primary school and it is a village of mainly women as the men are away in the US working......the first sight was two young boys kicking a football in the gravel path, the ball looked to be a hundred years old and I just smiled at myself and said to Zara can you imagine his delight when he gets a brand new soccer ball!!!

Then we invited into two homes to meet some of the Mother's in one home which was very basic but clean in the corner was this huge pile of corn husks....with all the kernels removed and in buckets ready to make tortillas.

Then saw this adorable 7 year old girl happily playing with small rocks again the smile for the same reason......

Next one family introduced me to the baby pig which they had bought as a graduation gift for one of their kids!!!!  Can you imagine!!!

Off to see inside the church and then to meet a two week old lamb!!!!

Zara said the whole community is so happy we are coming out....

It was a special morning!!

This afternoon a disastrous start to the new Year poker game I lost 100 pesos!!!

More work this evening organizing the big day on Friday..this has been a tremendous amount of work but I have such great friends helping all the way!!!

Time for a cuppa!!!

Yashi Kochi!!!

Les, Beach and I returned from the Caribbean Tues. night Jan 2 and were hit with 6 inches of snow the next day, Wed. I can't remember this much snow in balmy Charleston, SC since Christmas of 1989. Except for San Diego, CALF and the state of Hawaii, the rest of the US is in a deep freeze. All the Canadian snowbirds which made the trip down must be mightily disappointed, except for the ones who continued into central or southern Mexico. Well, for a short time, we felt nice and warm sitting on a terrace in Cozumel at 80F drinking a great Mexican beer.

We are sitting here catching up on your posts regarding all the work you and others are doing for the children on Three Kings Day and would love to be there to help. However, we primarily would have selfish motives, and that would be that we would be warm. Look forward to hearing more about such a worthwhile project. The joy all of you will receive will overcome how tired all of you will be.
