It is now 9.00pm Thursday night and I am in a small RV Park in San Blas, which is in the state of Nayarit. I didn’t get here till after dark but I think it is a small but nice park nestled in a grassy section but close to the beach. There is supposed to be Internet connection but not where I am so I may take my laptop down to the office later tonight and see if I can post this. I have booked here for 2 days and then will leave Saturday for Guadalajara.
In this park is Anita and John, who were parked next to me in Mazatlan, it was good to see them and we visited for a while and Anita has challenged me to a game of scrabble as we will be in the same town again in about three weeks,
I had an interesting day of driving I went back a little bit towards the north to a small town called El Quelite, which I had been told was worth a visit and it was. Just a sleepy little town with the usual beautiful church in the square. The streets were small and cobbled and the local people very friendly.
Just a quick water story. When I left Nanaimo I purchased a plastic 5-gallon water jug, which is great with a handle, and I have been filling it up as I go for my fresh water consumption. At the park in Mazatlan I could have filled it for 20 pesos, remember about 10 pesos to the dollar, but decided against it knowing I would find a plant somewhere in my travels. Well in El Quelite as I was walking around I passed this small water processing plant, a one-man operation, so I decided to fetch my container and fill it up here. I borrowed his little trolley and brought my container back, the first thing he did was wash the container out and clean it up, then filled it with fresh water, wiped down all of the outside, put a stopper on it all for 9 pesos and he took my photo. The moral of the story is not the 11 pesos I saved, but the interaction I had with the man and he now proudly wears a Canadian lapel pin in his hat.
I took a turn in this town that turned out to be a dead end so here I am in Ramona facing the wrong way in these small cobbled streets, did we panic, yes a little!!! I got out and surveyed the situation and with the help of a kind lady backed up into a driveway and managed to turn around without any incident thank goodness, Ramona let out a sigh of relief.
The next town I stopped at was called Rosario, this was a bigger town and I parked just on a side street and ventured into the town and took photos of the beautiful church with the immaculate alter. The streets here were busy and locals going in every direction.
Escuinapa was the next town, this was again a bigger centre and I am learning now and again parked on a side street, asked a police man if it was OK to park and walked into town. This was a much busier town and after taking pictures of the church and Municipal building I walked through the local market. I couldn’t stop anywhere to get a photo of the town name but I did see the police motorcycle and the name is printed on the back of the bike
I also have to mention the stupid thing I did tonight. I have this fantastic book about Mexican camping, which lists lots of campgrounds and the intricate directions to them, this park included. If I had read it properly I would have known that when I came to the T junction close to the park I should have turned left as the book states, but I didn’t and I turned right, don’t forget it is dark. After about 20 feet I knew I had blundered in the first degree but as luck would have it there was a Mexican watering some trees and he had a flashlight and he helped me reverse back down the dirt road and into a driveway and got me turned around. Moral of this story is two fold, one to read the book and two there is always some kind soul willing to help..
So that is me up to date and looking forward to a long walk on the beach in the morning and it is nice to be in a park where there is a lot of space and quiet, blessings to all
