Saturday 24th April 2010…Saturday morning musings….

I have to tip my hat to the Vancouver Canucks hockey team they beat my Kings last night quite easily and it wasn’t fun be in the Anderson house hold surrounded by raucous Canuck fans…I almost had to leave by the back door!!!!

After the game at 10pm I drove down to the ferry terminal for the Salt Spring Island ferry where I had a great sleep even though it rained most of the night.  I was in line for the 8am ferry this morning

apr24 001

apr24 002

It is a 20 minute ride to the island and I then came down to the main town.

apr24 007

Took some photos of the small harbour.

Each Saturday there is a farmer’s market

apr24 012

apr24 013

I do understand the economics of a small market and it is an interesting one but the prices are so very high.

This is what I shall be doing this weekend

apr24 015

on the soccer field

apr24 016

I have three games today and then three tomorrow.  So after the games I shall relax shower, have supper and watch a movie.  I know a good quiet place where I can spend the night.

My last game tomorrow will finish in time for me to get the 4pm ferry back and then home in time for another hockey game.  If Vancouver win they move onto the next round.  If my Kings pull off a victory the series will be tied at 3 games each then they play the deciding and final game on Tuesday evening.

Hi Sara hope you have a good day and get chance to get out on the water.

Wish all my readers a great weekend…

Ended the day by talking with Sara who said she enjoyed her first full day back at work…..so ends another wonderful day!!

I leave tomorrow evening after the hockey game to go to Salt Spring Island, about a 40 minute drive, then a 20 minute ferry.  So the plan is to take Ramona and sleep in the ferry parking lot tomorrow night and then be in line for the ferry on Saturday morning.  I have 6 games to ref over the weekend and I shall stay the night Saturday night.

Salt Spring Island is a funky little island and I may get a chance to do a little sight seeing.

Wednesday 22nd April 2010…back to Nanaimo

Sara left this morning for work and I went here

apr21 001I have known for years that I would at some point in my life need some very extensive dental work and I have put that decision off many times… but no longer.

I looked into the possibility of getting the work done in Mexico as the cost would be much cheaper but have decided to get the work here in Duncan and today was the start of my treatment.  It is going to be very involved and very expensive but I need to do this for myself and my health.

The Dentist is well recommended and I like his skill and impressions were taken today and then this afternoon I came to Nanaimo and had a cat scan taken of my jaw and I think next week will be the start of the work.  Not something I look forward to but needs to be done.

I am back home with my family on the Bank and always so nice to come back.

Tonight I had bought a ticket for this play at the University Theatre

apr21 003

I saw one of Norm Foster’s plays in SMA this winter and really enjoyed it so I was happy to go and see another one.

apr21 004

It was a very professional and impressive performance and I really thought it was a great play!!!

Have to give credit to the Canucks they tied the series with the Kings tonight so congratulations.

Just finished speaking with Sara she arrived OK and said the flight in was just fantastic and I remember that from my trip.  She is doing well and back into the swing of work…..

Wednesday 21st April 2010…well

I mis spoke in the last blog I did not in fact clean the gutters what I actually did was clean the eaves trough…YESTERDAY I cleaned the gutters!!!!

apr20 001

apr20 003

and of course I really enjoyed this chore!!!!

In the afternoon I reffed my first game of the year a High school girl’s game.  It was great to back on the pitch and even though it was cold and a bit wet I did enjoy the game and it warms me up for the tournament I am going to this weekend.

Sara left at 7.30am to go back to work in Kyuquot.  She has about a three hour drive then she takes the float plane, a flight of about 40 minutes.

The red pin is about the location of Kyuquot……wish you all a great day.

We were on the trails for over 4 hours I will leave you to guess that this was by choice or Sara the navigator took a few wrong turns!!!!

We came back into town and did some last minute shopping for Sara to take to work with her on Wednesday.

At this point I am listening to the hockey game and the Kings are leading 4 – 3 over the Canucks……

Sunday 18th April 2010…..rainy day in Duncan!!!

It is a wet and cool morning and I am at Sara’s house, drove down yesterday afternoon it takes about 40 minutes to drive.

This was taken yesterday morning from my bedroom on the Bank in Nanaimo…

april17 002

I am on the look out for whales…they sometimes comes down this far and Kirby has seen them a few times so I am hoping one day I will.

I went to watch a soccer game yesterday afternoon in the pouring rain most of my interest was in the referee, my young protégée Matt…april17 006

Matt has been a referee about 6 years and I had him in my class at the beginning and have been delighted to see him progress through the ranks and he is considered one of the best young officials in BC…way to go Matt!!!

Sara and I are going to go on a bike ride today if it clears up if not do some house hold chores(JOY!!!!!!!).  Sara leaves early Wednesday morning for another stint at work in Kyuquot so there is lots to get ready for that.

I heard from my friends Barb and Frank they are on their way home from Mexico and they may stop by here in the next couple of days we both look forward to seeing them and hearing their stories.

Much to the chagrin of my family on the Bank the hockey playoffs have started and Vancouver are playing the Los Angeles Kings and I am cheering for the Kings.  My idol 99 played for the Kings so I do support them and I know I have no excuse for not cheering for my home side, but some things are just the way they are…..the series is tied at one game each so I shall follow that with interest, this is for you Heather…..Go KOPITAR!!!!!!

Tuesday 13th April 2010……chores!!

Just spent my second day back in Nanaimo and taking care of getting my three vehicles serviced and cleaned.  Today was Ramona's turn for a service and I shall spend all day tomorrow cleaning her inside and out.  Then it is the turn of the scooter and my car.

I have managed to connect with a few friends and very sorry to hear of Eileen’s recent fall and ill health….so I wish you a speedy recovery and wish I could be closer to you to help and visit.

The days are sunny and quite mild but I fear the rain is on the horizon….Sara is at home in Duncan as she prepares to go back to work next Wednesday…so it is starting a busy summer coming up… may have some soccer games to ref this weekend…..best wishes to all…
