J & M picked me up at 11.30am and we started our journey to the big game.
Malc had done some research and we drove about 10 miles to a small town where we parked the car for the day and then got on a train into the city centre.....this is a long weekend here and the trains were busy, we had to make one change and then the next train dropped us about a mile from the stadium. I commented to J & M what a melting pot of races, genders, languages you get on the trains this is sure a hustling busy city.
The walk to the stadium was fun with both sets of supporters very vocal...
I had never been to this stadium before so I went on a walk around...
The atmosphere was vibrant and electric and pretty soon the stadium was almost filled because of fan violence in years gone by the fans are separated so one half of the stadium belonged to the Sheffield Wednesday team the other half to the mighty Tigers of Hull...
So we are all ready
Andy
Mark
and young Tom...the three Pearson boys had driven down this morning and we all had great seats together behind one of the goals!!
It was great to see the boys again and Tom has grown so much since I last saw him!!
To a fanfare of noise the players came out and 70000 fans got settled to watch the game..
This is the view from our seats but then the problem arose....we were about 40 rows up and all the fans in front of us right down to the pitch decided to remain standing and the only way for us to see the game was also to stand up.....obviously Janet and Tom and myself were not very happy with this and then the stewards tried to get the fans to sit but they did not so he offered anyone that wanted to move to follow him, so we did and he put us a few rows further down in a different side of the stadium and the seats were even better, this is our view now!!
I would not describe the game as a classic but Hull did have the better chances to score.....with about 15 minutes left in the game it happened....Hull moved down the pitch and the forward made a great run and finished off the move with a thunderous shot into the top corner of the net!!!!
The players celebrating
Father and son celebrating..
the boys celebrating
and my Bro!!
and the thousands of fans!!
The rest of the game was tense but Hull managed to hold on
and get promoted back to the top level of English soccer!!
The post game celebrations were exuberant and fun!!
This a write up of the game off the Internet!!

Hull wins to move back in Premier League
The Canadian Press
LONDON — Hull secured an immediate return to the English Premier League and a minimum $250 million cash bonanza by beating Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 in the League Championship playoff final on Saturday.
Mohamed Diame's goal was worthy of winning soccer's richest single match, the Senegal midfielder collecting the ball 25 metres out and curling a right-footed shot into the top-right corner in the 72nd minute.
"That little bit of quality to decide a big game," Hull manager Steve Bruce said. "Diame has produced a bit of magic and it's won us the match."
Wednesday goalkeeper Kieren Westwood had produced a string of excellent saves to keep dominant Hull at bay at Wembley Stadium, and got his fingertips to Diame's shot. He couldn't keep it out.
Hull bounces back into England's lucrative top division at the first attempt under the ownership of Egyptian-born businessman Assem Allam, who is seriously ill and wasn't at Wembley for the game.
Allam saved Hull from falling into financial ruin when he took over the northeast England club in 2010, following its relegation from the Premier League.
Promotion is worth at least $250 million in future earnings to Hull, with the Premier League's new domestic and international TV deals starting next season and worth a record $12 billion over three years.
Wednesday was seeking a return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence, and was a shock qualifier for the playoff final. But the Thai-owned team appeared to freeze on the big occasion, with Hull creating most of the best chances.
"We seemed to have so many good chances," Bruce said. "Thankfully Diame has come up with a wonder strike . my big players today performed excellently."
Bruce became the first manager to achieve four promotions to the Premier League.
Hull finished the regular season nine points ahead of Wednesday.
We said goof bye to the boys they had about a 5 hour drive home to Hull and we did the reverse journey on the trains..it did take a bit longer going home with all the crowds.
J & M dropped me back at the house at almost 11 pm..
