Sunday night about 11pm and my brother just beat me again at scrabble with rather a dubious last move and the score now tied at 4 games a piece. Again we have no Internet and we spent the day travelling to Uxmal, which is the site of another one of the big and famous ruins. We arrived around 3pm and Ramona is parked in a very nice parking lot of a fancy restaurant about 4 km from the ruins. There is a pool and washroom and another cold shower for Malc to experience tomorrow.
Tonight we went and had supper at a restaurant at the ruins and there was a light and sound show inside the ruin’s ground at 7pm, which we went to. There was about 300 people there and it was magnificent to see the huge ruins in all their splendour and the light show was good but the story was told in Spanish and it wasn’t until we were leaving that I realized we could have rented head sets where the translation was in English, so I was a little annoyed at myself for that. We both enjoyed the show and are looking forward to seeing these ruins tomorrow.
We have added an additional couple of stops into our trip but more about that later, good night and I will post when I can.
Now it is Monday evening and we had the most amazing day, the ruins of Uxmal. Really I don’t have the articulation to describe these incredible structures please just enjoy the photos and let your imagination take over.
After the ruins we decided to change our plans and we decided to go to a town called Celestun on the Gulf of Mexico, which is famous for flamingos. Malc navigated us there and we took some minor back roads that at first were great they took us through some small Indian villages so Malc could get a glimpse of the way of life there but then the roads deteriorated into small one-lane dirt paths with potholes and branches close to the sides. Ramona was not a happy camper and after her bath and shampoo yesterday she is amazed how badly we treated her today!! She came through unscathed but the roads were by far the worst I have been on and what turned out to be a short drive turned into a long hot day but all is well now.
We are resting for the night in a secured parking lot of the place we catch the boat tomorrow to go on the Flamingo tour, it is quiet and safe and Malc is getting his first taste of what we call “Boon docking”. Where you park with no hook ups so we use the generator and inverter for power. We both had hot showers, supper, tea and cookies and the scrabble battle will begin.
The ruins will stay with me they were just so magical and glad that my Bro’ was here to share in the delight.
Take care and will post when we find an Internet place, blessings..
