Friday 5th August 2011…an interesting day!!

Left the campground around 11am this morning and went to do some shopping and then drove over to my couch surfing host for the night…Karyn lives about 20 minutes outside of Charlottetown on 4 acres and this is the drive way..

The house and property is lovely and great views.

Karyn is the Wardrobe manageress for the big theatre downtown and the show playing tonight is the Full Monty which the original version was from my home town of Sheffield.

So I asked if I could go with her and get a ticket for the show and I did.  Karyn took me backstage and showed me some of the show’s costumes..

It was all very interesting!!!

I had a couple of hours to spare before the show so did a little walking tour

Had to try my last PEI potatoes!!!

The show was extremely well done and it was a lot of fun.

Back at the house Karyn showed me her shop and workshop where she has over 400 tuxedos and costumes….she has travelled all over the world when she worked with the Winnipeg Ballet!!

It was another great day and in the morning I take the ferry over to Nova Scotia as I head up to Cape Breton…..will post when I can..wish you all a great weekend!!

Sydney is where I will take the ferry next week to Newfoundland!!!

Thursday 4th August 2011….my first Ceilidh!!!!! You will have to Google that!!

Sara has been spending the week in Alberta with her family celebrating her Mother’s Birthday and she sent me this photo of her Mum and all her kids…..Sara is standing next to her twin brother!!

Wow what a family!!!

I didn’t mention it last night but I almost had a very traumatic and dangerous experience…the concert that I went to last night was 38 km away and the roads to get there are quite narrow, very dark and only houses every few hundreds yards apart and obviously no street lights….all was OK on the ride there it was still light and I had no fear of driving back my lights are good and I knew the way what I didn’t realize was that I was low on gas!!!!..I was taken aback when I set out to come home at 10pm and saw the gas gauge was approaching the red empty line and 38km to go….I really didn’t think I had enough gas to get back and wondered what I should do…stop and try a house to ask for gas…ask for a ride……I decided I would go on and see how far I got and if I did run out that I would be close to a farmhouse…this was very risky because if I stopped in the middle of nowhere here I am dressed in black no flash light…….anyway it was a harrowing journey and I kept thinking the next hill this is it BUT would you believe I rounded the last corner before home and I was still motoring!!!!  Made it home and very fortunate and happy to see Ramona.

This morning I was sure Bonita would not start but start she did so I drove her towards the nearest gas station about 1 km away fully expecting her to stop but no she got me to the gas station..I am totally thankful to have such good Angels on my side!!!

OK enough back to this morning…..had a great sleep woke up to a sunny but cool morning so I decided after breakfast to get packed up and do a mystery tour on Bonita….

I like cows… on a quiet day, if I ever get one, I will tell you about the cows I used to own!!!!

and i walked on some lovely beaches!!

Stopped for lunch and could not believe that there was a penguin on the beach!!!!!

The English readers will know what I mean!!!!!!!!

It was a nice adventure and I arrived back at 3pm and spent about an hour doing chores including washing and preparing dinner

and doing some cleaning inside and out of Ramona and then read and sunbathed for a while….had a great supper and Gail you will be happy to know I took all your advice and the beans, carrots and potatoes turned out perfectly in the steamer!!

Showered and got ready to go to my first Ceilidh…did you look it up yet??

It was on the same way as I went last night except only 20km so made sure I had a full tank of gas…

The small hall was packed not an empty seat anywhere and after the first few bars of the the first song everyone was stamping their feet and hand clapping…they were incredible musicians!!!

This young lady tapped but was too fast for my camera!!!

Intermission was served in the basement…

It was probably the best 10 dollars worth of entertainment I have had for years…just a great evening looking forward to more of these kind of evenings….the ride back was uneventful!!!

Tomorrow I leave here and go about 30 km to a lady couch surfing host who lives on 4 acres so will post tomorrow if I can…….

Thursday 4th August 2011…..Mum’s Birthday!!

My Mum would have been 93 years young today!!

She was the most amazing and wonderful woman I have ever met!!!

Even though she dressed me in a DRESS!!!!

Any comments about my dress, my chubby cheeks or my curls will result in instant ban from the blog for three days!!!

Mum passed way too early…16 years ago….so glad you were my Mum…I love you Les!!

Wednesday 3rd August 2011……Over to the north coast!!

Found out there is another Birthday celebration….my school and soccer buddy from 50 years ago…Happy Birthday Ian!!

Today started out cool and rainy and it was time to move over to the north coast but first I had to find a car wash to get some of the red dirt off Ramona the only car wash I could find Ramona was too high so I had a brain wave parked her side wards to the entrance and the hose just managed to reach then I turned her around and did the other side….saw this nice view of the bridge..

I had made reservations yesterday at an RV park and I arrived just after 11am

This is really a well run and nice park with full facilities..

Apart from the great amenities they also honour my Passport America membership…this is a membership club where the annual fees are 44 dollars and then at certain affiliated parks you get half price sites…..so for one night my total cost is $16….that includes power, water, clubhouse and laundry showers and Wi fi…not bad….as you can tell I prefer to be out in the wilderness but it is nice once in a while to be spoilt……this is only my 7th park in 40 days….and 4 of those were in Yellowstone!!!

About 2pm it stopped raining so I took the opportunity to get Bonita out on the road and smelling the ocean!!

When I am on Bonita I put my camera on a strap and have it around my neck which was the only reason I was able to get this quick shot!!!

Along the road I saw a sign for home made baking in this house so I stopped and went in..

So I bought a few things and next door was this sign

So I am now the proud owner of my first bag of the famous PEI potatoes

$2.50 for this bag!!!

I came home and used my steamer pot to cook fresh carrots, beans and pots…and they tasted wonderful.

After getting shaved and showered it was back on Bonita to go about 30 km to this concert

This was a very entertaining show by very talented musicians all from one family Dad, his 3 sons and his daughter…I did enjoy it but to be brutally honest I would have preferred if there was not so much preaching after every song …just a comment but still a great performance.

The weather forecast is not great for tomorrow so will see what happens I am booked here for tomorrow night then Friday I am going to another Couch surfers home for at least one day….

Today is my great Nephew’s Birthday!!!

So Tom I wish you a very happy Birthday!!!

If your right foot is as good as your Big Uncle’s Les…you will go far in the soccer world!!!!

I also want to wish Peter a great Birthday today as well…….I know you are related to me but cannot figure the right words.

Peter is my cousin’s Shelia’s husband!!!!!
