I now take you back to yesterday, Friday, morning and the B & B in Lynton…..Sara liked the size of the mini fridge in the room..
After a great home cooked breakfast we left the house and went for a walk into the lovely little town centre.
To get back up the 800feet to the top of the hill there is this incredible railway car that is run on water ballast…I am not sure how this works but this railway when it was built in the early 1900’s was the steepest one in the world, of course Sara wanted to drive!!!
So ended another wonderful stop over.
We then headed back on the road heading south and found this tiny piece of heaven next…
Join Sara and me as we walk down the cobbled stones about 600 feet to the Atlantic Ocean!!!
After all this walking we needed refreshments and so we loved the local afternoon tea menu….2 warm scones, clotted cream, fresh strawberry jam and tea!!
What a reality check to leave this tranquil haven and travel 20 miles south to the town of Bude and this!!!!
Although very pretty too many surfer dudes and amusements parks for us old folks!!!
I went into the Information office here and the lady was so helpful and told us of this neat back road by the ocean going in our direction and not 5 minutes after we left were we rewarded first with this sight…
Then this…
It was now about 5.30pm and we were looking for a place to stay when we passed this sign…
i went and checked it out whilst Sara stayed in the car..I came back and told her it was awful and immediately turned into their driveway and this awaited us…
View from the upstairs window..
This was an original barn converted a few years ago into a B & B with three rooms..
the beam is an original.. I would like to remind you that when you see me in the same shirt and before I get rude comments about my hygiene that I have washed my shirt out in the evening. And tomorrow you will see me as handsome as ever in a different shirt :)
Just a fabulous place and the cost only 110 dollars…we had another cup of tea and then went out as the sun was starting to set for a walk to the ocean..these are the views along the way..
Not the coastal trail along the bluff. We eventually reached here…
and marvelled at the spectacular ocean views…
This was a steep climb and this the the path back. You may see hints of steps build into the steep bluff.
The sun was getting lower and lower…
Friends on the way back..
Finally the sunset…
The owners had told us of a resident badger than came visiting at dusk and here eagle eye Sara is on look out!!!
As we were watching the end of another World cup soccer match I did look out the window and we did see him but it was too dark to get a photo.
So now you are up to date we have just devoured another great home cooked breakfast and are ready to hit the road again….hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did…
The pin roughly indicates where we are…
