Saturday was a special day on the island as the Olympic torch was being paraded through the communities as a pre view to the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
Saturday evening Sara and I had tickets for a dinner theatre play in Chemainus, a small town about 25 minutes south of Nanaimo. We also found out that before the play the Olympic torch would arrive so we headed to the small down town centre.
It was a grand sight to see all the pomp and ceremony and the happy flag waving people and to our amazement the flame came right past us.
It was a great one of a life time events that will stay with us and to be so close was a huge thrill.
Here the torch carrier was being interviewed by a TV crew from Mexico!!!
The buffet dinner was excellent
and the play was a good choice for Halloween night it was called Women in Black and was very well acted and it was a special evening.
I want to acknowledge Heather and Kirby and their three boys Ben, Alex and Zach they have opened up their home and their hearts to me and I have been privileged to stay with them since April and last night Heather prepared a beautiful meal and had a small welcoming party for Sara. Ben and Alex were not feeling 100 % and Kirby unfortunately had to work but the evening was very lovely and the meal was incredible, thanks also to Karen for dessert!!! Ken was able to come and he was in good health the whole evening and it was also special because Eileen could be there because she leaves in 3 weeks to go to Williams Lake.
So thank you to all and for making Sara feel so welcomed.
I am in Duncan at Sara’s house getting the last minute jobs done and getting ready for when we leave on Sunday.
Hope the weekend was a good one for everyone.
