This will be two days of posts into one….so we left the parking lot of the Quality Inn and drove about 2 hours to the Apache trail just on the outskirts of Phoenix.
I wanted to stay at one of the State parks here but when we arrived it was full as were two other RV parks so we made the decision to park at the side of the road on a turn out right by a lake.
Let me explain the Apache Trail it is 44 miles long connecting east Phoenix to the Roosevelt dam. The first half of the road is paved but narrow and the second half narrow and not paved and I had been warned not to take Ramona all the way through.
Anyway this is where we parked last night.
Sara and I both felt comfortable here as the road was not busy and we were off the road by about 20 feet. We unloaded the scooter and took a ride further down the trail.
Here I am testing the road because I still really wanted to take this trail as opposed to going all the way round about an extra 100 miles.
Not sure what the white circle on the mountain is here!!
We rode back to Ramona and plugged in the converter and watched a movie and we both had a great quiet sleep.
The view this morning!!!
We packed up by 9am and were on the road. Again we talked and decided not to take the rough trail but the long route and the drive at first was through quite heavy rains before the sun broke out.
This was our next stop to see
they were very impressive.
I assure you Sara is bending over imitating a Native rubbing the corn husks!!
The next stop was the dam and there was a scenic overlook.
We ended the day about 4pm in the small town of Payson at a great camp ground. After two days of camping without hook ups i promised Sara the whole works today.
So it has been a wonderful home coming to the States we have enjoyed ourselves and we are looking forward to more incredible vistas and places as we are heading into Sedona.
Tomorrow is Sara’s Grandmother’s 98th birthday. Gracie is a Great, Great grandmother and tonight Sara talked to her on Skype to wish her a Happy birthday!!!
Where we are tonight!!
