Friday 17th November 2017..........getting ready!!!

I knew when I went to bed last night that I had the start of a cold coming on and sure enough this morning woke to the sniffles...I usually get one of these once a year the timing is not good this time..........I had a tennis game scheduled for this afternoon but I felt it best to get a substitute and just take it easy today which is what I have done..that is if you call watching a live tennis match and then a live soccer game from England, taking it easy!!!

It is nice to have Little Bluey in the garage here so I can pack most things and it is safe......not taking too much as the weather should be good for me.....

The plan is to be on the road by 6 am for the long but good drive to Laredo and the border...I have an air bnb booked in Laredo and hope to be there late afternoon.....one thing I did not take into consideration is that this weekend in Mexico is a holiday weekend, Revolution Day, so I would imagine the traffic close to Laredo and the bridge to cross will be busy but I have resigned myself to that fact and I shall just wait in line I have music food and drinks so no worries....

This is the route for tomorrow!!

A quick run down of my itinerary ..... Sunday drive from Laredo to Austin where I am booked into another airbnb in  an RV on a horse ranch!!!....I will stay there till Thursday(Thanksgiving Day) and then drive to San Antonio for another one night's stay in an air bnb close to my tennis partner, Carolyn's Daughter, Kirsten, who I hope to take out to dinner that day and pick up my Mexican permits and some items I ordered on Amazon......Friday I drive back to Laredo and stay in the same air bnb for 2 nights....on Saturday I shall walk across the border get all my documents and then Sunday morning early start the drive home.

In Austin I have an escorted hike into the Canyon Lake Gorge booked for Tuesday afternoon...and Wednesday going down town Austin to take in the famous BBQ's they have and also the music scene .... it is the music city of the USA....and then I have booked a live show at one of the theaters.......

Will do some hiking and exploring as this is an area I have not been to before!!!

Hopefully will have Internet so I can keep you informed of my travels....

A happy and safe weekend.....les

So sorry that you have a cold! Time to nurse yourself back to health with three or four cups of hot tea with lemon a day (I think your favorite is "Rose"), buy yourself a dozen fresh oranges to eat for vitamin C, a bottle of aspirin, plenty of water, menthol lozenges to suck on to keep your sinus open, and tissues. Hot Progresso chicken noodle soup is good when you're a little hungry.

Todd (my son) and his family lived in Austin for five years. They really enjoyed Austin except for the traffic and fast driving on residential streets and parkways. There are more BBQ restaurants in Austin than you can shake a stick at. When we were visiting, Todd took us to Iron Works BBQ, and it was fantastic. Celebrities like Reba McIntyre, Robert Duvall, and Kate Hudson think so, too. It's located at 100 Red River Street in Austin. It resides in a historic former iron shop.

Also, if you need to do some shopping, Austin is the place. This time of year, it is rather cool at night, and nearly everyone wore a hat during the day because of the intense sun.

Since I'm a history buff, we visited the Texas Capitol building; inside the building, you know you are definitely in Texas. Also, nearby is the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library located on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Because you and I are of the same generation, no doubt you will recognize a lot of history there.

Since the US Thanksgiving week starts Sunday, drive safely in all the traffic.
