Saturday 30th June 2012……..a beach day!!!

Well my first sleep in a while not in Tilley the tent was really good, quite warm but I kept the balcony door open and a good breeze came through…my breakfast of cereal and yogurt was good but I must admit I miss my morning cuppa tea!!!!!!

I decided today was going to be a lazy beach day and I packed up lots of drinks and fruit and a sandwich and went on about a 5 mile walk through town onto the path that leads around the coast, very pretty!!

The town itself is on a peninsular and this is the view from the side it looks quite stunning!!!

I found a place that seemed good to me and rented a lounger for 30 Kuna about 5 dollars for the day!!!

I had numerous swims in the clear warm ocean and slept and read and ate and thought and I am sure at some point snored!!!!!

I really enjoyed the down time…walked back into town and home and then after a long cool shower went and explored the old town.

It was fun getting lost in the labyrinth of the old narrow streets and artists shops and restaurants and friendly people abound!!!!!

I climbed the hill to the church

The church was beautifully decorated and a service was taking place!!

I bought some more juice and milk and was home by 8pm…..time for another shower and then modeling the Croatia National soccer shirt!!!

You will not be able to miss me in this!!!

I had hoped last night to watch a movie on Netflix but when I logged in a message came up saying movies not available in this area sorry…that’s Ok lots of reading researching and computer stuff to do…

Friday 29th June 2012…..the journey begins!!!

Said a sad farewell to Stella and Tilley and then the three of us drove into the capitol Ljubljana where we parked right downtown and we each spent a couple of hours looking around…this is a very peaceful city, very clean with friendly people!!!

We met back at the car and then Janet and Malc drove me to the bus station where we said goodbye we have travelled really well together and over three weeks of good laughs, bonding and seeing incredible vistas all memories that will stay with me……Thanks J & M please have a safe journey home although however you are going to make it without me navigating for you!!!!!  See I did not mention scrabble!!!!

So here I am where do I go???

I had done lots of research and had picked three places I could get a bus to depending on the time table and the most convenient was to the place that I really wanted to go to Rovinj in Croatia….there was a bus leaving at 1.45pm and it would arrive at 7pm..perfect for me and it cost 22 Euros!!!

Now this money is getting so confusing for me so here it is….

20 Canadian dollars is 16Euro so work it out from there except now I am in Croatia they have their own currency the Kuna

so now we have 1 Canadian dollar is about 6 Kuna’s…..got it???

The bus ride was perfect I had the whole back 5 seats to myself…

The bus stopped about every hour for a few minutes to pick up people and to have a stretch…..after about 2 hours I crossed into my 10th Country this trip and the first time I had to show and get my passport stamped.

In these Eastern countries a lot of people usually older people rent out rooms in their homes and as I was coming into town I saw some of these adverts…so after getting off the bus I walked maybe 5 minutes and my first stop there was no room but the man suggested I go across the street and sure enough I have a room!!!!!

It is perfect 5 minutes from the bus and the sea front….a very lovely clean small bedroom with a great front terrace with chairs and a table and a line to hang my clothes…I share a fridge and a spotlessly clean bathroom with one other room……I have even pegged into the owner’s Internet.

This is where I am writing the blog a lovely cool breeze and did I mention the price??   30 Euros a night which we all know is about 38 Canadian dollars!!!

 

I went to the supermarket and stocked up on drinks milk and juice and yogurt and fruit!!

I have booked for 5 nights as I want to explore on foot for a couple of days the I shall rent a car for 24 hours to go to the country to see some villages I have read about..so as you can see I am very happy and all I miss is that cuppa tea!!!!!

Friday 29th June 2012….Newsflash!!!!!!

THE KING STILL PREVAILS…AFTER STARTING SLOWLY THE SCRABBLE KING COMES FROM BEHIND TO RETAIN HIS CROWN……..

Thursday 28th June 2012…another road trip!!

Malc planned this one and we were away for the day by 10am…..Slovenia is one of the greenest countries in the world and we took the back roads and passed through so many fertile areas…

This was the next stop we rode the cable car and then up more on the ski lift and these photos were taken up there…

After a lunch stop we were off here

Janet stayed at the lodge and Malc and I climber 548 steps to this awesome sight!!!!

We did not get back till 6pm and it was a great last day together…after super and getting cleaned up malc and I are off to watch another soccer game and then come home and play are last game of scrabble tonight we have the national dessert dish to have with our tea

It has been just over three weeks travelling together and it has been so lovely…Janet and malc have been so good to me and I shall never ever forget the places we have visited…THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

the plan is to drive into the capital Ljubljana tomorrow to visit and they will leave me at the bus station.

 

J & M come back to the camp site for one more night then they head home arriving back on Wednesday evening……I plan to take a bus and go into Croatia and continue my travels back packing till August.  it is a new adventure for me and I will blog and e mail when I can……I embrace the challenge and look forward to some amazing stories…..
